Tange bottom brackets? Comments on quality vs. Shimano?
Anyone know the qualitative difference between a Tange Square Taper BB (LN-3912) and Shimano (UN-55)? This is for a trainer road bike BTW. Not familiar with Tange, but I think Cannondale used them on some entry level mountain bikes. Thanks!

I seem to recall that Shimano contracted with Tange to make their bottom brackets.
In any case, my experience is that Tange bottom brackets are very similar in quality to Shimano.

Cool, thanks. Besides, I may well go through more than one getting this build right, so at $15 the price is right.

I have a Tange 7922 on my rando bike. Still pleased with it in every way 4000 miles later.
But how nice of a BB do you need on a trainer bike?

Just like in the auto biz there's a lot of subcontracting out in the bike biz. Perhaps there's more brand awareness and the resulting muddying of the manufacturing source waters today but there's still out sourcing going on. Just look at Shimano chains and KMC. If you talk with either reps at the industry shows you get the impression that one company hates the other, instead of buys from them Andy

I installed a Tange BB on my 650b bike a few years ago. 4,000 miles with no issues. Seemed better quality than the Shimano UN55s I've used - but that's subjective.

I must be in the minority. Have 2 Shimano square tapers BB.... have 2 Tange... no contest. Tange 2-3 times smoother. Better quality. Fit is better.
