I don't buy jerseys
I just realized it too.
I've got several pairs of bibs and if course I bought those.
My jerseys are a different story. 2 nearly 20 year old team jerseys from college in great shape. Some from rides (I guess I paid for those in entry fee), one a friend gave me because it didn't fit him. One I got for being a contributor to an outdoor publication, a New Belgium one I got because I was talking to the right person after a football game. All but 2 are even full zip.
Sometimes I think I should buy one but they just seem to come to me.

I buy 'em all the time. I've probably got 30, a few of which get worn a whole lot more than all the others. Pretty typical, I imagine.

Interesting. I sometimes buy jerseys, but never through a brick and mortar retailer. I've bought several vintage reproductions from China recently. The quality is surprisingly good, and the mesh fabric is nice and light for summer wear.
As for cotton tee shirts. No, I don't buy them. Ever. They seem to show up periodically as give away items. The few that I own are used when I'm painting or working on a car, or maybe for lawn work. I don't think that a tee shirt is fitting for a mature man to wear even around town. But that's just me.
Older ones I cut up for use as shop rags.

Brace yourself, I don’t wear long pants either. It’s shorts probably 360 days of the year. I do appreciate the persistence of the notion that t-shirts (or any specific article of clothing, really) is only acceptable for a particular age range. It’s cute.

I recently bought a jersey from Brash Coffee here in Atlanta.
They have a few locations in Atlanta and the owners are cyclists.
The jersey is as nicely made as most of what I own plus it has a zippered security pocket.

When I am out traveling, I buy bike shop jerseys. Pint glasses, coffee cups too.

I have three jerseys, one cotton jersey from 1977, one team jersey from 1992, and one fun jersey from 1986. Don't wear them anymore because they irritate my nipples. (Can I post that?) Cotton T's are it for me.

I think that as the father of a bride, you've reached maturity. It's also a viewpoint, as I won't wear sports/team gear outside of an arena/stadium setting. That sort of thing.

"Short pants" isn't really descriptive enough. Tennis shorts while playing tennis? Of course. Cycling shorts while mountain biking? Yes.
When out and about in Summer, shorts are usually appropriate. Men's shorts, nice fabric, tailored. No sports shorts or droopy outer pockets. Maybe like a tailored golf short would be fine.
Denim? No.

When I resumed cycling in 2015 with a comfort hybrid I swore I wouldn't get caught up again in the clothing, but... kit happens.
After getting a road bike in 2017 I remembered why the tighty shorts and jerseys are so practical. More aero. And pockets. That's when the trouble starts.

I did buy a few no-logo nice fit t-shirts recently to have to wear out casually for brunch or something and not have it be a "you did such and such fondo!!!" plastered all over it. Or a bright pink awareness ride t-shirt.
Jerseys? I buy.
I haven't gotten but one as an "entry fee" jersey from an event. That was AOMM. Only one free full race kit from work. That was like $150 total for free, sad but I crashed in that one and has a rip in the jersey. Also the bib has stitching on the pad falling out already. One I paid for at big discount from work. Then a few basic REI bib shorts and bibs and really basic Izumi jerseys.
When in France for work last year I caught Le Tour and bought a KOM jersey. Yes, I do ride in it and do steal your Strava KOM's while wearing it. Suck it Velominati.

The current trend of omitting chest pocket from dress shirts is a shame. It indicates that they are designed by young people who never need a place to put their reading glasses.
Along the same vein, if it ain't got a zippered security pocket, it ain't a jersey.

Ha- a year ago, a co-worker who is a bit over 50 came over to my desk to read something and I chuckled because she had reading cheaters already on, a pair up in her hair, and a pair on a chain hanging around her neck. She had forgotten she had the others already and grabbed the ones she was wearing as she came to my desk.
Anyways- agreed that designing clothing(or most anything) for groups that you arent part of can prove to be quite challenging.

I'm not opposed to buying jerseys, I just haven't, in like decades.
I still have the wind vest from the race kit from my first team out of college. Nothing else, took a few too many tumbles.
I raced one season for a team that fully set me up. Castelli bibs, skin suit, vest, jersey, and long sleeve thermal thing. Maybe armwarmers too, I can't remember. I do remember selling each item on eBay for $15 to $25. Dumb.
Thanks to this thread, I will probably get a genuine knockoff Molteni jersey though.
