Since I have less than $1,000 into any of my bikes and less than $500 into one of them, I'd have to say "YES". I started out on a $100 used Trek MTB with commuter tires and I'd still gladly ride it today, in fact, my wife still does. If the "bike gods" looked unfavorably upon me I'd ride a $25 yard sale Murray and be far happier than I would be not riding at all. BTW just for fun I put a couple hundred miles on a 1990 era Schwinn Caliente that I found for free on the scrap heap during clean up week a couple of years back. For the cost of a tire, tubes and a roll of grip tape, I had a very serviceable ride that I later sold to a college student who still uses it as a daily commuter.
In the past (got to get going back there) I have volunteered at a community bicycle co-op. If you want to see the shear joy of cycling, watch a 12-year-old, without a dime to his name, the first time he rides the bike he refurbished himself with used parts.
I appreciate beautiful, state of the art, high end bikes, but do I need one to be happy? No.
"Free" bike as found (front tire is shot). Took about $50 to make it a very reliable and enjoyable ride.

Sure I could. Be easier if it could be something grabbed at PerformanceBike on one of their discount weeks If we're talking MSRP...
Well, just about everyone makes a sub-$1000 road bike. I'm sure I could ride any of them and have fun.

Bicycle Repair Man !!!
I have a bunch of bicycles that all cost well under $1000.00 and the most I have paid was $600.00 (for my Surly Pugsley)... although I have a few antique bicycles that could get me a very nice mid level carbon fibre wonder bike if I sold them.
I am about $500.00 in to my Proctor custom...

if I could only have one bike, I'd get a 29er MTB and an extra set of wheels with some 25s or 28s for road riding.

I fail to see tjw problem, plenty of great bikes under $1000 OK there enter level but there hardly crap, I understand a $500 bike not being very good but plenty of fine bikes that work well for under $1000 I'm looking at getting a new road bike soon and I'd only looking at between £600-1000 which is pocket money to you guys but can get plenty of bike fore that money, considering I ride am old vintage steel bike now even a sub $500 bike would do me fine, and what I rode now is fine.
Do you know how eliteist and snobbish this thread makes you guys sound!
CYCKING IS ABOUT HAVEING FUN, NOT SPENDING MONEY.
Of you want to be snobbish go head over to the racers section (not all racers are snobbish but there's plenty who are and think there better than everyone else)
Or just head over to the
"look how much money I spent on a bike that I could have spent half as ,much and the bike still would have outproformed what I could ever use it for thread."
Now shut up arguing and post valid point and options if you don't like the question don't post. Its people like who come on Jere and troll at the OP for no reason who ruin these forms, if you don't like it move on no need to have a go at the op to get our post count up!

Now for my suggestion if someone gave me a grand I'd happily buy and ride this and not worry about the fact that I couldent get a decent bike to ride.
https://www.evanscycles.com/products/...-bike-ec040963
Tjhats one of a fair few I'd ride, OK its not the best specked but its not bottom of the bottem of the barrel.
And I'd gladly give them the change back.

I am an atheist, so I can ride whatever I want.
Maybe this should be in P&R

You better practice. There are some experts here, so competition is tough.

I have a bike under 1k, Redline cross bike, and really like riding it. It's not my primary but if I had to I'd easily make this my daily rider.

No, but I got an exemption from the car gods since my car is under $1k. (car gods > bike gods)
