Unexpected consequences of running errands by bike
Last weekend I rode to the cleaners to drop off and pick up work shirts. This is the same cleaners I have been using weekly for 7 years. Every time I go in, they ask for my phone number to pull up my account.
Today when I walked in, even before I got to the counter it was "Hi Mr. ChicagoDan, how many shirts are you dropping off?"

I don't get it. Are you saying they know your name and didn't ask for your phone number because you ride a bike?

Sorry if it wasn't clear, but that about sums it up. I've seen the same woman behind the counter once a week for 7 years, and I was not notable. Saturday was the first time I rode my bike for that errand. Today when I went in, she remembered me enough to pull up my account on their computer before I got up to the counter.

Huh. I get that without riding a bike to the cleaners.
How do you portage a pressed suit?

I put the bottom of the shirts in my left pannier, the hangers stuck to the magnet which would hold the right pannier if it was on the bike, and I ran a compression strap around the shirts and the rack on the top so the whole thing stayed on.

Hah! I know what you mean!
I changed the pet shop I buy cat food at during the winter to avoid an icy hill climb. Been there before, but wasn't of any note. I showed up to the store once in ski helmet and goggles and they've recognized me ever since. Any time I show up by car they ask, "Where's the bike?"
Now I go there all the time instead of the other stores since it amused me so.

I don't even have to ask the Walgreens pharmacy drive-through staff for our prescriptions anymore; they recognize me, and know I pick up prescriptions for my wife, too. It all goes much smoother since I perfected my pannier-loading technique while I'm in the saddle.
