Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Here's a brand new parts build, on a brand new bike path!

This is on the Lower Yahara River Trail, just opened a couple weeks ago. It includes a nearly mile-long causeway across Lake Waubesa, running next to a rail line. It was a perfect day, and the path was quite busy -- all ages, all speeds.

The bike is much less interesting, nothing like the beauties shown in this thread. It's a 1995 Schwinn Traveler frame with wheels built from old Rigida and Nashbar rims and a Bendix red band hub. Everything else on the bike is basically generic. But I've been enjoying it a lot -- 25 miles today. It's my return to single-speed after a roughly 15 year hiatus.

At your service!

More details: The 1985 Schwinn Traveler is from an auction at the bike co-op. It's in rough cosmetic shape, but good structural condition. It claims double butted 4130 tubes.

Bendix Red Band has been in my bin since my last SS bike, and I strung it up onto an old Nashbar 27x1 rim. I'm not 100% satisfied with it, and might try a Shimano based on your advice. But with the front brake, it stops the bike.

The rest of the parts are from the co-op, a second hand bike shop, or my bins. I treated myself to a new chain and handlebar.

The blue thing is my sag bag, made from a blue jean leg, mounted with an old toe strap and a couple pieces cut from PVC tubing.

Gearing is 46:19, and total weight is 22 pounds.

The Brilando clips are a Schwinn exclusive -- I transferred them to my good wheel.

Dope Mash SSCX @EnzoRWD. I've always wanted one of those frame sets.

Looks like it would be a super comfortable ride. I love the 1985 Schwinn paint / decal color combo too

Woah, how'd I miss this? I kinda love that Cinelli went 'full race' and didn't put bottle cage bosses on this frame even though it kinda sucks for day-to-day use

Splitting hairs with this one. New stem and rear mudflap with some reflective stuff on it. More or less just happy with the lighting in this shot.

Haven't posted this one for a while

Built on a budget about five years ago and my primary Summertime/sunshine ride. Thought it deserved a plug here this year for it's reliability (survived a hella' crash a while back), fun factor and comments received when out.

@TenGrainBread That thing is a little from left field and I love it.
@EnzoRWD I was just back in this thread and looking at your Mash SSCX again. Noticed the Oak City Cycling sticker, what's the connection since it doesn't seem like you live in Raleigh?

Need to build a track bike again. I have silver S75 on the way already. If everything goes to plan, I'm going to be lacing up a set of DT Swiss track hubs to a set of Reynolds KOM tubulars encased in Bontrager Race lite tubulars.
