Tyre size adaptability

Hi everyone,
Standard question here. I have a TREK FX 3 with the original Bontrager 700x32 tyres that are coming to the end of their life. I've often found that on some dirt tracks I lack stability and would therefore like to try out a larger tyre size. I know I can fit a 700x35 but would possibly like to try a 700x38. Does anybody know if they'll fit?
Thanks

How much clearance do you have with your 700x32s? Be aware that tires do not always run true to size and that different brands/models of the same nominal size may have different actual sizes.

I'd be tempted to darken the door of a bike shop and see if they've got wheels with the tire size you want to try that you can borrow. (If it fits, buy at least one from them!)

Maybe a slightly more aggressive trad on 32's?
It'll probably be slightly larger than a "smooth" 32.

Yeah, that's really the only way to know for sure - even then a difference in rims might cause a problem.
Dave 76 can examine all the normal places where clearance presents a problem - under the brakes, between the stays, etc., but even veteran bike guys (me!) still call it wrong sometimes. What looks like an extra 3mm with the old tires in there turns out to be somewhat less when the new ones that are 2mm bigger get mounted.

Go see the guys at the Trek store - they would probably like to help you.
