D2R2 on a Roubaix?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

D2R2 on a Roubaix?

I am looking toward next summer (trying to forget about the cold) and thinking of some of the events that I might want to do. I was recently reading about the D2R2 D2R2 | Franklin Land Trust and it sounds like a great ride. I ride a Specialized Roubaix. To those who have done this ride, have any of you done it on a Roubaix or similar? Would this be possible, perhaps by putting on wider tires? Any thoughts or suggestions?

D2R2 is a great ride. I probably wouldn't want to do it on a roubaix. We have a big group that goes every year, and I would probably run at least a 30mm tire. Last year was pretty dry, and running a 34mm nailhead style tread was perfect. Could you do it on a roubaix - maybe. Will you want to kill yourself after 180k, yes. A dedicated cyclocross bike or gravel bike is of course ideal, but I've seen people do it on all sorts of bikes

Right now, my only other bike is a 2011 Sirrus, which I believe would take a heavier tire. It might not be ideal, but might be better in some ways.

Check to see the max width your roubaix will take.

The brakes are going to be your limiter... maybe find a cheap set that will let you run wider tires?

Yes it is possible. The question is, how much hatred and self-loathing do you have in your heart?
