From what i've gathered from watching american chopper, the stuff the teutels wrap around exhaust pipes on rat rod builds looks just like the bregal's cover.

I wonder what it's made out of, since it's designed to withstand temps of up 1200°F!? Is that something we want to touch with our bare hands; even at room temperature?

Time to report back in. My Brooks Cambium, the one that originated this thread, now has somewhere north of 10K on it. Perhaps it was around August that I began to question whether or not the fabric would stand the test of time and mileage. With that specific criteria in mind, here we are: You can clearly see that the main points of contact have worn down. However, there is no unraveling of threads, no fraying. If anything, the constant "sanding" of my legs against the saddle have smoothed it somewhat. I'm going to call this one a winner at this stage.

Some serious mileage. That's a very reassuring view. Did you use any form of seat cover in the rain or when parked?

Nope. I figured the whole point of the exercise of giving out free saddles to "testers" was to test them under the conditions they're supposed to excel in. (Yeah, I know the "testing" was a marketing ploy, but all the same I've taken the opportunity to actually do so pretty seriously.) So, no, I never used any kind of cover. To be clear, though, I never leave any of my bikes outside between rides. I do, however, ride in crappy weather.

Do you have any side by side before and after pics? It would be easier to judge wear. Doesn't look like much from the pics above.

Probably. I'll have to check to see for sure.

The wearing is pretty minimal, and I know it's tough to see in the photos no matter how sharp they are because the texture isn't especially distinct or pronounced to begin with. If you compare the rear of the saddle, around the rivets, you can see that the texture is more well-defined than those areas where leg movement has shined things up. To my mind anyway, it's a positive thing that it's difficult to see the wear.

Looks good to me. I still want to build a custom commuter and the Cambium is on top of the list to try. Currently I use a SI Zoncolan and at 6K miles, it is starting to look a bit tattered.

Probably. I don't think there's too many people around here with a Sawyer because it's not the most practical thing in the world. But I have fun with the thing and it takes a beating with no complaints...

On page two of this thread is his brand new from the box pics. The wear is pretty mellow, but is obvious after comparing it. Having a nearly new Cambium myself, I can also see the difference.

What is the max rider weight of this saddle? I'm wondering how this would work for a heavier rider and in a hotter more humid environment. Has anyone tested this in Florida, or other parts of the south?

I weigh in at 200, with no discernible impact. The summers here are hot and about 10,000% humidity - I was concerned about the effect of heat and humidity also. But as one of the other forum members pointed out to me, those should have no effect upon the material this saddle is constructed from. I can't speak to the validity of that claim other than to say in my own personal experience it has not made a difference.

I've had my Cambium on my daily commuter hybrid/bamboo frame ride for 3 weeks now and I'm pretty sure it's a keeper for me. Since I've only had spongey/gel type saddles until now, it took me about a week or so to begin to feel properey comfortable on the harder Cambium.
I got mine at Mountain Equipement Coop...Canada's answer to the REI store in the USA. Though I wanted to buy from nearby LBS...they could not match the un-touchable MEC standard return policy..."Rock Solid"...returns/refunds for ANY reason whatsoever forever as long as you have the receipt. Price was same.

I know everyone hates necromancy, but I didn't want to start a new thread. I bought my Cambium back in January and have ridden it just about every day since. I don't protect it from the weather, but it really hasn't been exposed to much sunlight or rain (the bike isn't outside unless my butt is on it). I bought a slate Cambium, and then last week, bought another for my daughter in law. Here's a shot of our two saddles side by side.

I still love mine, and she can't stop singing the praises of hers, but the color doesn't seem to wear well. Just thought folks might want to know if they haven't seen it reported elsewhere already.

Thinking that the black one could actually look pretty good on one of my C&V CF bikes......

I actually bought mine specifically for a decidedly non C&V CF (Jamis Xenith) but decided to get a Selle Italia with a cut out for that particular bike. I think the Cambium looks good on just about anything; I've even contemplated getting one for my folder.

My saddle is the one on top, her saddle is the one on the bottom. When mine was new, it was the same color as hers.

BFold of NYC for let me try their Brooks C17 Cambium seat loaner. It was my 1st time on a Brooks saddle and was very surprised how comfortable it was. I had this idea that I'll only be comfortable on a seat with a cut out/channel, this seat changed my mind.
