Working on a build for a Colnago Regal thats been restored. Have a Campy 50th anniversary kit that is going to be installed but the customer supplied a different bottom bracket since the kit had an english threaded BB. BB was new in packaging all campy but had hand written notes on the box designating it a Super Record ITA BB with the 1st gen ti spindle 115mm approx spindle width. The cups on the other hand say ATB on them and the bearings are 11x7/32 in a plastic race. The main problem is the ND cup will not thread in more than about 6-7mm before it bottoms out on the spindle shoulder when it should be almost flush. My thinking is that the 14x3/16 might be the needed bearing set but that only gets me another 2mm or so of thread and maybe another 1-2mm due to the bearings sitting futher up on the shoulder. That is unless the ATB cups are inherently thicker from outside cup to race.
So given the info do you think this is a bearing issue, a cup issue or something else that im not seeing? I will be posting some pics shortly.

Been a long time- as I recall the mountain bike cups had the bearings set deeper to centerline as there was a “rubber” seal - is that the cup type you have?

campagnolo did some odd bearing dimensioning to the bottom brackets in the mid later 80’s...

keep in mind, mtb bottom brackets were wider too 73mm

i think you need a matched set of bottom bracket parts- what is the crank date code on the drive side?

Yes it has the rubber seal in the axle hole.
the BB did not come with the crank. Crank is with a 50th anniversary kit that comes in the carrying case.
Spindle is an ss120.

Not sure what BB you have, but it doesn't seem to be the correct one for an NR/SR crank. This one might be worth looking at. Since your crankset is from the 50th anniv. group, it would be post CSPC and takes a longer spindle than the originals (+1.5mm).

Pretty sure the cups are not going to work then.

Spindle that you need will be 115mm wide +/- .5 mm
Assuming it is a steel spindle, globe logo or shield logo?

70ss120 spindle, Italian cups with the reverse threading at the spindle bore.

I agree, looks like I need new cups.
It is a 115 Super Record Ti spindle 1st gen with the internal bolt threading.
