Shifter Boss Cover

So does anyone know where to get these things for a reasonable price? Is someone printing them maybe?
The prices on fleabay are just outrageous.
TIA
Charlie

Out of all the threads started here for someone wanting a STI part like this boss cover, I don't think any two have ever been for the same model of STI.

No wonder they command such high prices. If I had to hold that in inventory all these years, I'd want a fortune for it too.

These are nearly universal fit. OP have you tried a bike shop? Shops that deal with older bikes should have plenty at a reasonable price.

They're all the same and they're still coming new on shifters that use them. The ones on my DA7700 levers are identical to the ones that are on my DA7400 from 1985.

$10 for a piece of plastic that are likely made by the million? Yeah, outrageous is the word.

SurferRosa, if you can get them for $2-3 we need to talk

Cheers
Charlie

What are you talking about? The piece in question if for braze-on shift levers. Nothing to do with STI !!!.

Did you even look at the picture in the OP??? Do you ever pay attention to questions before you respond??

I've probably thrown away a dozen of those over the years. If I had one, I'd give it to you - but the shipping would probably be $9.95!

They're actually made out of metal. $9 seems reasonable to me for a part that needs to fit a very specific shape and is not in very high demand anymore. At my shop, these are $10 a pair. We get them from QBP, which almost every bike shop in the states deals with. Maybe you can make your own for cheaper?

Braze on shift levers? What are those? Do you mean the braze on mounts for down tube shift levers?

Now that changes things. I guess this part wouldn't work on shift levers that just had a mount that clamped to the downtube as did the ones on my Raleigh Comp GS. Still I have no idea where on a downtube shift lever that would go.

Lighten up. I'll comment where and when I desire. It's only you that apparently read posts as if the other person is threatening doom and gloom if others don't believe exactly as they do.

As noted: it's metal, WAS made by the millions (likely long out of production now) and the listing includes shipping, which if you've checked starts at ~$4 these days using the cheapest tracked option. And it's on Ebay where they take a decent cut. So the seller is probably making $3 on this sale (minus the part cost to him) after shipping and fees. you could find someone local with one and pay less, but don't put a value on your time otherwise you'll be making well under minimum wage to save a few dollars.

Checked Thingiverse and others. No readily available .stl found. Here is a possible link for a Shimano Boss...

https://www.printables.com/model/463...ter-boss-cover

https://www.printables.com/model/241...-cover/remixes

Ya know these dont break that often. Especially the metal ones. 10 USD might be worth it...

My little Ender printer is Kaputt for now. Come on guys. What else ya got to do on a cold night? How about stirring up the old Cad system brain matter and generating an .stl for us?
