Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Where did you get your FG wheels?

I'm having trouble finding a set of fixed gear wheels locally or online. Where did you get yours?

Miches to Aeroheads from Ben's after I got hit by a car.

If you can't find wheels online, though... GOOGLE.

House-brand Formula hubs, DA Alpine III spokes, both from Harris.
Discounted CR-18 rims from Nashbar.

If I could go back in time I'd make myself buy better rims. I like box rims, but these came with a Schrader drilling and no gussets. Saving thirty bucks on the rims lowered the quality of the whole wheelset and I've got to find/make gaskets to keep Presta stems from sacrificing themselves on the stem hole.

They ride great, but I don't think they're going to last as long as they could.

Had a set built up by SpeedGoat. Two more sets built by my LBS. And a third purchased from IRO.

IRO hubs, Mavic MA-3 rims, dirt-cheap spokes and nipples (icyclesusa.com), and plenty of beer.

The first wheels I bought were also the first I built, and I'm glad I did it. Plenty of how-to tips online, and they're completely round and true after more than a year since they're properly tensioned. Plus, I learned something.

www.bicyclewheels.com carries some too for a good price, just make sure to take them to your LBS to get checked for trueness and tension before riding (at least that's what i've read on here).

As for my IRO group buy frame, i'm getting my rims from www.thebikebiz.com (Velocity Deep-V 32 hole Purple), rear hub from IRO (IRO/Formula high flange 32 hole), front hub from www.speedgoat.com (Shimano 105 32 hole), and i'll be getting them built at the LBS and let them do spoke selection for me (actually two different places since there's afew shops i like, front wheel at one shop, rear at the other).

Trinity Bicycles in Irving Texas. A small two-man shop that builds them to order.

Great wheels, great service.

IRO hubs, Salsa Rims, DT Swiss spokes, a 12-pack, and a truing stand.

Build your own wheels... its alot easier than you think.
