What size frame for 5'7" woman?

I'm looking for a decent used bike for my daughter, in hopes that she will catch the cycling bug. I'm not going to spend much money because she might decide that she doesn't like it, so I will probably buy used. Craigslist and some local bike shops have a broad selection of refurbished used bikes for sale.

Any suggestions on what size frames I should be looking for? She is 25 years old, 5'7" tall and thin, fit and agile. Knowing her, she would not be interested in a skinny tire bike with low handlebars. A hybrid, sport touring, touring or cross bike would probably be ideal, or perhaps a mountain bike with slicks. She would probably want her handlebar height at least level with the saddle.

My city has developed an extensive network of MUTs - bike paths, and that is probably where she would ride most often.

I'm a 5'7" male of average proportions. I ride a 54mm bike but a 52 mm size would work also. Although woman's proportions can vary quite a bit from men's, I believe either size would work for her. If she has very long legs, definitely the 54mm size.

That's sort of what I was thinking -- in the 52-54 cm range for top tubes. She seems to have average proportions for a female, not overly long legged or torso'd.
