I think the likely reason is pure dopeyness rather than malice. That guy was there cleaning out all night before closing (they are procrastinators, these people), and the water meter had been disconnected, probably when the house was winterized. So I suspect he saw it lying there and thought, oh, that's got to go, and took it.

Yeah, that's what I'm hearing. The water company may not charge us for the meter installation, because we are not liable. We will see. However, we did need to have the plumber reconfigure the water inlet pipes to current code (instead of dewinterizing, sheesh), and that will not be free. So we can probably take the cost of that item to them. Though we did insist on the winterization, and if that's why the meter was removed, they may not be responsible for that. I don't know.

The real estate agent went above and beyond and rented a pump to clear it out before closing. The seller drove his rented U-Haul onto the front porch, smashing the roof of the truck and the gutter and front roof trim boards. He literally threw his belongings into the truck and drive off never to be seen again. So this was December, and I had no water and no heat, and busted plumbing. I learned to sweat copper pipe very quickly. For the next month there were sheriffs, constables, and bounty hunters cruising the neighborhood and knocking on the door looking for the seller because he was a felon. On the positive side, I spend two plus years fixing the place up and doubled my money when I sold it shortly thereafter.
As annoying as this was, it's mostly just annoying because we have the time pressure of wanting to get started with painting this weekend. And of course the house is very cold. It now seems like we should have the house dewinterized by Friday afternoon, so it'll be fine, and compared to so many other possibilities it's very minor.

Mostly I feel bad because my wife is stuck dealing with all of this nonsense while I'm at work (she is part time and can more easily take time off to make appointments).

It's April 1st, the day that each year I am reminded that I am a more trusting and just better person than all the mother****ing liars surrounding me!

After years of silently scorning the dopes who do this, last summer I drove up to a covered hotel entrance with three bikes on the roof. Some of the words that came out of my mouth, even I was not sure what they meant. My kids were like three little emoticons in the back seat [ 8-o 8-o 8-o ]. Amazingly the bikes were all completely unharmed. The impact was entirely on the handlebars of one road bike (a Ti bike with carbon fork/steerer), and the force pushed the roof rack crossbars back about 3 feet, to the end of the side rails. Took the bikes off, straightened the one bike's stem, set the roof rack back up and all was well.

Purchased electronic bits from Merlin on Monday and had them shipped directly to bike shop (their idea). Free shipping. Tracked package. Delivery today. How the hell can Merlin do that? That's faster and cheaper than my LBS's supplier can do, by leaps and bounds. (Which is why he recommended this process.)

Plot twist: driver rolls down window and does not yell ***, yells "go baby go!" instead. Color me confused.

A few weeks ago someone was climbing up Sunset and I rolled down my window and screamed, 'Allez Allez Allez!' The guy wobbled and almost fell out of surprise....oops!

I wouldn't mind a motivational yell every now and then. I'd say 75% of the yells I get are incoherent hooting and the remaining 25% are something rude.

"Go Lance" is pretty common and I don't really mind.

Back when I ran more often "run, forest, run" kinda pissed me off.

I was doing a late night ride in a city a while back, it might have ben 10-11 PM, maybe even midnight. From some high up balcony I hear someone scream, "GO FIGNON!"

Then a different night, probably even later, from a different apartment a few blocks away, I hear someone yell my name, like "Go!". Ends up it was a higher up racer that was having a beer on his balcony and saw me riding around. I didn't even know he lived in the area. He told me at some point in a round about way, like "You still do that loop at night? I yelled your name one night."

Some years ago bf member Vireo was doing RAAM on a 2 man team, with bf member Brandy as his crew chief. My friend/clubmate David was doing the race solo in the 60+ division. Brandy was posting updates here so when her team was getting close to passing David I asked her to have her whole team (2 vehicles) yell and wave signs at him. He had no idea who they were and didn't find out until back home when I told him. He laughed pretty good when he thought about it.

And my p.o.s. bike is clunking again, this time it sounds like the rear hub. I guess I have to make time to work on it. Last week I robbed the saddle from my other road bike for the mtb. The one that was on the mtb sucked just like it did when it was on the road bike.

I'm kind of happy to be absurdly allergic to dogs and cats. I only ever have to worry about myself throwing up half of a gopher and I'm usually good at not doing it on the carpet.
