Self-appointed troll hunters driving new users away

Suggestion to the forum administrator:

Outing suspected "trolls" or "sock puppets" has a high chance if alienating new users and driving them away.

I recommend that reporting a suspected troll be done using the appropriate PM to an admin instead of publicly.

Public accusations have become like a witch hunt and serve no purpose other than to show how smart the "perceptive" accuser is.

Let the admins make the determination in private instead.

Thanks.

Aren't a number of these accusations being made by newer/more recent members?

Anyway, you can do your part by using that report button as you mention. That's what it's there for. People calling others out as trolls is not acceptable. By reporting it the message goes immediately to a staff member whereas PMs get read as the recipient has time to.

Staff can't be everywhere at every second, and they count on us, just like the police count on your reports to tell them where to send patrols. And if you see a pattern of problems in a particular forum or types of posts then you can guide them to look for them much better and 'direct traffic' until a snarl is cleared.

Newbies also can't communicate via PM etc like the older members but staff can reach them.
