First commute of the year was January 2. Clear, fairly cold (13 F / -11 C). The best part of the trip was the view of Rosslyn, VA and the Washington monument while crossing the 14th Street Bridge. Check out the frozen Potomac and beautiful golden light.

My first commute this year was in late January, after not riding consistently since late October early November. On my way into work I started hearing my brake rub against the rim. At work I checked to see what the issue was and I had a crack in my rear rim . At first I was a little upset, but as the day went by I started feeling a lot better about the situation. I had ridden my bike so much I broke the rim .

Friday was my first commute of 2018. 187 watts to average 15.1 mph to work. Heavy bike...about 64 pounds with full panniers. Driving rain on the return trip.
Today is my second commute of 2018. Windy and 25 degrees. (-4 celsius) 11 miles. 225 watts average power to average 13.1 mph (21kph) Yikes. Panniers act like drag chutes.

That was about 6 weeks ago, so it was probably cold and dark.
Today it's warm and sunny, and I have the day off, but just had my oppthamologist appointment so I'm scared of the sunshine!

I started a new job on February 12, so that was my first work commute of the year. The weather has been reasonable, so it was a nice ride, other than the headwind. I'm loving my new job, and I'm so lucky I have a seven mile commute that is scenic and mostly traffic free.

My first commute was last week on a decent day in NYC, temps in the 40s to maybe 50. It was right after I'd finished the Tour of Sufferlandria so I was feeling really good and it showed when I hit the bridge. I was able to just power over it much faster than my first commute last year when I was barely able to make it. It felt good in both directions.

Mine was yesterday. It was a little above freezing and windy - it shouldn't have been too bad but I could really feel the atrophy after not riding for a couple of months. I missed all the lights on my way home too, things should only get better.....

Commuted home at about 12:25am Jan 1st, with a -10f degree windchill. Rear hub pawls did not freeze this time like they did last year, so it was a good ride. Since all the ice and snow started I've switched to my steel ss...I just installed drop bars with sram s500s and I have a s100 single crank waiting at home for a bottom bracket to install. Supposed to be raining and 35f tonight...but temps are trending upwards. Overall this winter hasn't been that bad.

Frostbite on a 12f morning with a 20mph headwind, back in January. Now I wear boots under 25f, even for a 2.5 mile commute.
