Attached images rotating when uploaded
Ever since the downfall of Photobucket as a useful site, I've been forced to use the attachment feature on this site, but I'm most frequently uploading pictures directly from my phone. I find it frustrating that pictures that are taken in portrait orientation always show up in landscape, but today I uploaded a landscape-oriented picture, and it showed up upside-down! Is there any way to fix this?

It will look fine to our Australian members. But I seriously don't know, I don't have a phone.
First of all, which brand/model and some idea of how you are doing this will help.

Hmmm...
Rotated_Up.jpg
GIMP will rotate the images properly. I think the images are upside-down, with an orientation flag set that the website isn't reading properly.
Oddly, if one right-clicks on the image and selects view image, it appears right side up, so at least some programs are recognizing the correct rotation.
Perhaps it is an error with the shrinking/display algorithm.

This is prevalent on many forums. Seems that some software is ignoring the directional indicators. Sure would be nice if AI or quantum computing could find a fix .

I'm not sure that is the issue.
Right-Click on one of the upside-down images above, and select "View Image". At least in Firefox, the image appears right-side-up.
Tried it in the New Microsoft Edge... did they manage to break that software with their updates? Anyway, the image remains upside-down when displayed on the page, or as a single image.
I'll have to try other browsers later. Nonetheless, I think the image is, in fact, rotated to the correct orientation, at least how the device interprets it, so the phone is unlikely to change the image.
The issue, however, may be in the browser image processing software, and not related to BF.
I looked at the "view page info", and the images are upside-down no matter whether one is looking at it in the page/window, or independent.
Oh, I did another test.
Saved the image on my hard drive, firefox displays it right side up, but "view page info" displays it upside-down. And, Microsoft Edge also displays it upside-down.
So, that is independent of BikeForums. So, an image processing software problem on the computer/browser.
Maybe I'll get Fedora back up and do some additional tests shortly.

Fine, if you can actually get the EXIF info while you are on your Samsung thingy.
That's what PCs are for, I guess...fixing photos.
Thanks to all of you who came up with some solution ideas.

I did a quick bit of googling/reading...it seems that vBulletin (the software that this forum runs on) ignored EXIF data until version 5.25, but this site is on v3.9.3 if I'm reading things correctly

Yes it is an EXIF data issue. You will for the time being need to reorient and resave on your device prior to uploading.

3.9.3 or whatever they have gone to in any upgrade is a corporate version specific to our owner Internet Brands that is used on all of their sites with forums. They also own vBulletin Systems. This version has no bearing or connection to any other version of vB. 4 and 5 are different platforms, although this one employs some part of others possibly and innovates it's own features.
Some other non-IB sites still use platforms such as 3.85 which is also not this platform, it was developed years ago (like the mid 2000s).
