I threw this together a couple of weeks ago after not having a singlespeed bike since a too-small Kilo TT a few years ago. I never really got along with that bike since it was geared a bit too high, and the bike just didn't fit well.
Currently running a mountain bike crank and a ACS freewheel. It's pretty fun to ride but I'm really considering going to flat bars if I want to do a lot of off-roading with it. It's hard to get any leverage with the drops, I've found.
Also really wanting to get some narrower cranks on this, I'm mostly a roadie and it feels weird being on a road bike frame but having a super wide stance like on a mountain bike. If i'm going to do it on the cheap though, I only have standard road double cranks, so I'll need to get a ~20T freewheel to keep the ratio low enough with a 39T chainring.

Basically the mountain bike crankset I have on there was designed with wide spacing between the pedals in order to accommodate wide chainstays for wide tires on a mountain bike. This measurement is also referred to as "Q-Factor", "Q", or "Tread", as far as I've seen it described.
At the moment, there is close to an inch of clearance between the end of the crank arm and the chainstay, and my legs just feel like they are spaced really far apart.
There are some arguments out there concerning pedaling efficiency that say that the narrower you can get your pedal spacing, the more efficient you are at putting power down, but I just think it feels weird.

Surly Steamroller fixed gear. Don't even start chirping about NDS pictures. Both sides of a bike are important and deserve to be photographed.
I ride this bike more than any other. There is SO MUCH that I like about it!

This thing is dope. Get some modern shaped drops that will fit a quill stem like Soma Highway 1's paired with some SRAM levers and leverage won't be an issue.

It’s already in the mid 20’s C in coastal Georgia, but this is the time of year we get most of our annual rainfall, so the bike is pretty dirty due to my early preparedness for spring and fenderless riding.

Here's my fixed gear bikes, listed from good weather to very bad. Lately it's been way to crappy to ride the Juvela, but I just took my fixed Schwinn MTB out last night in 4" of fresh snow and and had a great time. Makes a perfect winter bike.
