Anyone pay to optimize their chain to save 4-6 watts?
Home UltraFast Optimization
According to these guys, a factory chain has 10 watts of friction out of the box, 6 watts after being cleaned, and 5.5 watts after being optimized. They use industrial cleaners and laboratory coating applicators to optimize you chain. Price is $76 to optimize your own chain or you can buy one for $99 (DA 9000).
Anyone ever try this? If you are 45 kg, 5 watts is a 0.10 increase in your w/kg

It's actualle .5 of a watt saved if you compare the "cleaned" with the "optimised".
Needless to say, I'm having my chain optimised.

they don't treat the connecting link at all! Process UltraFast Optimization They're neglecting around .9% of the chain's potential to be optimized. I'd be upset if I paid $76 to be optimized and they left 0.9% off.

I saw that linked to the Friction Facts web site.
Home page Friction Facts
I optimize my own chain, thank you very much! I use paraffin wax melted into a crock pot then dip the chain into it. Works pretty well, but not sure how many watts I'm saving.

The claim of saving "up to 6W" is probably legit - important part is "up to" of course as chain losses related to load (in a non-linear way) and expressed in %%.
So it is possible that given new chain at the certain load will loose those 6W vs same chain after it was properly broken-in, cleaned & lubricated.
Unfortunately that website does not disclose any details and "test data" they have is a joke really Supporting Data UltraFast Optimization
Looking at the link above they show on graph 1 new chain losses vs graph 2 broken-in, cleaned and waxed chain losses - right there difference is already almost 4W.
It is well known fact that broken-in chain is more efficient, waxing and cleaning has noting to do with that.
Besides you can clean your chain at home using ultrasonic cleaner (they around $50 or so on sale) and wax/lubricate it as you wish.
Clearly even from their own test data that "PTFE/MoS2 lubricating layer" only added tiny bit of gains so why bother and pay for it in the first place?

I've not tried it, but it seems legit to me given the test data that's out there. Essentially you're paying for the perfectly broken in and lubricated chain for a specific race to ensure you've not left a little on the table. For a 112mi TT I could see how it has some value to some people.

Sigh, I wish I had known this before I spent $200 on an aerodynamic chain that only guaranteed a 4 watt savings

Wait, is that Sheldon thing a joke?
Nothing better to do then spend an hour dismantling a chain, four hours cleaning it, and another hour pinning it back together? For a few debatable watts?
For the unemployed, spouseless, childless, and wealthy cyclist, this seems like a PERFECT solution.

Thanks, American humor is lost on me sometimes.
Makes me feel dumb, guess I needed the reality check.
Thanks for letting me know it was a joke. It literally was eating at my soul knowing what some morons would have the audacity to purchase. Thankfully this isn't one of them...yet.

Heck, if you can save 5 watts on a chain, all you need to do is build a bike that uses 80 chains and you won't even need to pedal.

The funny part is, that some people will probably buy it. You need not look further than "cable-risers" and "timing clock" (yes, that's an alarm clock you place in the room to aid with the "timing" of audio propagation in the room (!!)) in the audiophile world.
People will certainly buy stuff, even if most people see it as a joke, and there is no actual benefit in it.
