Still looks relatively expensive - but the cost should come down in a few years and I think even "the BSO" will turn out to be quite OK for the intended use.

Had my share of renovating everything a few years ago - do as well as you can, it will probably be worth it in the long run.

I've seen some close up pictures of this "BSO", and I don't know how much longer it really has left to give. Rust everywhere... it can't be a great riding experience.

Riding experience is mostly in the head, not in the bike - my opinion at least (as long as the bike is fitting size at least).

That Sigma computer has seen better days, I had one like that, different model though, had temperature.

Mine old one got busted up in a crash, but I have over 30,000KM between the new one and the old one.

Replaced a few batteries, and the mounts definitely are not the best, replaced a few of them already. (wires go bad)

Well, yes and no. I know what you mean, but if, for example, I have a rusty chain that's squeaking and fighting me, it's gonna bother me quite a bit. Ditto hubs, BB, brakes...

Also, very relevant as I just returned from a one-week conference in New Orleans, USA.

As I stated earlier, my bicycle is simply a tool and now lives outside with my Edwardian house restoration almost being complete and impending family expansion.

Also, as previously shown, I live in the most dense ward of the most dense city in England (about 50000 ppl/mi2), so I can't really afford any type of bicycle storage facility (and they don't really exist as real estate is very expensive). I think it's actually the most dense city in Europe, from some other data I showed (each resident has about 200m2 of total space). About 4 times more dense than London and 5 times more dense than Paris. (Or similar to Manhattan, within a two-fold error range).

The bike does need some lubricant this evening, should I have time, I'll just run some cheap Filippo Berio extra virgin olive oil over the chain while cooking.

As an aside, the entire area (Solent) is very nice to live and is probably the nicest out of the dozen of so places that I have lived longer term, hence why the density is quite high, so I'm willing to deal with a little rust on some bolts.

Also, on the second ride after the period outside, this morning, it seems fine, all of the squeaking is gone but it could still could use extra virgin olive oil to polish it up and so that it can collect some dirt to cover the rust.

Regular olive is probably no worse than extra virgin olive oil for your bike.

And, @acidfast7, are you implying you cook with that Berio oil? Surely a bon vivant and expert on everything in the world such as yourself would realize what a faux pas that is.

As for the rusty chain, it might not bring you to a grinding halt, but it's the sort of thing that would bother some of us just because we know it's there.

Dude, it's what I have kicking around. My kitchen extends to the rear garden where the bicycle is kept. It's cheap and tastes OK for the money. Hell, I'll be thankful to get any olive oil post-Brexit.

I've had two of the Sigma 1009. I guess that they've been uncliped only about 1500 times without cable breakage issues. I did lose one when I spayed my MTB down before packing it away in a box. The current one has lost both forward-facing buttons and has used a few batteries.

I can't really complain for the price though (about €20 or so new).

Yeah, again, for the umpteenth time, nobody is getting worked up (except for, perhaps, you?). As for your bike, I made the mistake of clicking on the thread title and so I initially started on page one. I noticed plenty of people that were sharing their less than positive opinions of your choices, so I thought I would cast my vote in the "brutto" category. As for your neglect of said bike, I think that is a fairly straightforward and objective observation, no?

I will be honest that the bicycle doesn't like living outside in the (salt water-containing) rain.

After 3 days outside, I needed to pour extra virgin olive oil over the chain and needed a hammer to free the rusted freewheel. Not so good Afterward, it was much better.
