Palo Alto bike frame pics

The BMZ contract-made Palo Alto frame is now mine. Disrergard the yellowish pixels on some of the photo's - Apparently a flash abberation. This thing is a deep, rich, metallic ruby red all over. Take a look:

Now all you need is some decals. How about 'Bastardo Fortunato'?

My italian is sketchy at best. I didn't know he was a good cook. Fortunate Baster. Uh, that doesn't sound quite right. Ohhhhhh! Yeah, he's gotta get decals with that on them. And chainstay and fork ones as well with those words. It'll look great!

Pretty frame!

YEAH, baby...thatsa sharp looking Italian! How about a detail shot of the underside of the BB shell so we can see what a BMZ mark looks like? I bet you're gonna love this frame.

Naw - doesn't sound lyrical enough..... what else you got? Hey, how about "diavolo rosso" or "quello bello"?

Ist for riding, nicht for flippin'. This is why I flip bikes, right here. and when I flip myself into a better frame, then maybe this one will go one the block. Right now, that ALAN Guerciotti is on the bubble.

Dunno. I'd like to do Chorus, but I don't think the frame warrants that level of trim. How about Veloce? The wife says "do whatever you want", so I've got the high ball....... Gotta think on it some. I was contemplating stripping the above mentioned Guerciotti of its' full Dura Ace group and putting it on this frame.

I think Centaur would be a nice compromise for this one.
of course a Super Record gruppo would look nice too.

These are the best prices I could find. Record is too expensive for this frame. All the rest are "do-able", but the main problem is I don't know enough about the current Campy offerings to make an intelligent decision.

Any online tutorials?

Campagnolo Record 2007 Groupset - $1676.52
Campagnolo Centaur 2007 Groupset - $671.87
Campagnolo Veloce 2007 Groupset - $513.73
Campagnolo Mirage 2007 Groupset - $399.10
Campagnolo Xenon 2007 Groupset - $309.29

As your wife will allow you to get whatever you want, go for the Centaur, and keep it in reserve...that way you will have it when you really need it...

very nice frame bossman. i like how it has local flavor. if you are going to put new wheels on it, the price of the wheels can help you decide on the group, as to keep everything in budget.

cheers

I thought WD-40 was evil.

Nice looking frame. If I could sit on it without compromising the integrity of the frame I would be jealous.

Just to be clear on this point - the wife doesn't ALLOW anything. But sometimes there are.... um..... "consequences" for not asking her opinion......

Ah, that's a different story. I would still get the Centaur gruppo. Here's my philosophy: if your spouse says, bigbossman, I want you to get the best, so I see no reason why you should not get that nice Holland and Holland bolt action rifle for only £18,165, would you then turn around and get the Weatherby Mark V?

As long as you've already run the idea past her...

Thanks - I'm digging this frame right now....

Wheels - Hmm....... Something new, but with a vintage or classic vibe. Low spoke and aero are out. Maybe a hand built set on the Mavic Open Pro or perhaps DT Swiss RR1.1 rims? Or, how about modern hubs laced to vintage Mavic MA-2 or MA-40 rims? I've got both of those laying about, but they are currently laced to vintage 6 speed hubs.

Nope - at least not for use on the bikes I'm flipping. Seriously, WD-40 has its' uses, and used within certain parameters works very well.

Bossman,

Centaur would look fantastic on that frame, I really like the 07 Ultra-Torque crank, but the 06 cranks & brakes look much better on the vintage frames. Perhaps pick up those two parts on ebay cheap, and give gvhbikes.com a ring for the rest of the parts.

(Forgive the modern frame img over here)

bossman,

sorry that bike screams out for Mavic Reflex or some other acceptable
Tubular rim. Maybe a nice set of GP4s? Campy strada?

Is that Centaur on the Flyte? Wonder if I can get a triple crank - need one around here.....

EDIT: Just answered my own question - thanks for the gvhbikes.com link!! Using their kit builder, I can go with Centaur triple, and save some budget money by using a Veloce chain, cassette, and brake calipers.

I agree, I was just having fun... You wouldn't think that it was useful reading some threads in the other forums, but I almost always have a can close by when I am tinkering with bikes.

It's a gorgeous frame! Thanks for sharing it with us.

I would suggest that the frame is deserving of the finest components... You should also have the Palo Alto decals fabricated; you can find examples in the catalogs. If necessary, you can have a personalized decal fabricated as well.

My two cents.
