Went out or 2:50 today at 0.9 IF. I feel better at higher watts subthreshold. But I did a 12 minute climb and only up 9 watts from 3 weeks ago. Was hoping for a bit more, we'll see how it goes this next block.

Solid ride though. IF of .9 for 3 hours is a beat down.

Freakin' smashed today during my ride. Basically raced everything I came across, which is just as sorry as it sounds. Lots of z4/5 time. I need some real racing! Felt fresh as a daisy ~70 mi into my ride at the end and wanted to hammer more, but went home.

90 min on Zwift tomorrow morning, then going real big on Mem. day.

Picked up a Kickr and got Zwift setup. Next weeks forecast shows rain through the weekend, so I guess I’ll be getting familiar with it. I did a short 15 min ride on it last night, it’s definitely less boring than staring at a wall lol.

Very cool! I'm in the same boat but a few weeks ahead. Got the Sairs (H3) about a month ago from my LBS. So far I've just been free-riding Watopia and I've done a few group rides, which are much more engaging. At some point I'll have to try an actual race.

One of my favorite rides is to hit up Epic KOM twice (full loop) at SST with a Fuego Flats warmup and cooldown, from downtown. It's about 2 hrs. About 13 min from the top of the climb to the bottom again if I loop around. I've been doing that about once/week and it's a great way to get >100 TSS and a couple hours in after some harder rides.

I believe I did see you... I was the big guy in the USAFA (white and blue) kit on a silver tandem. I think we were going about 25 when you were coming up from the tunnel.
We left SC 9:45 AM.

My son was commenting on 3 folks he rides with and how they ride like amateurs and beginners. How they surge and pick random sports to go fast.

As those three are another guy, wife and me - 100+ years of riding between us, all had raced, me the least, I explained the beginner part was likely a bit off. The amateur part - well, never-mind.
As to why - we came to the realization that what was a training ride for him - was THE ride for others. That sprinting up that hill or to that light was as competitive as it was going to get all week.

He's in a pretty serious training mode now. We don't know for what. I am hoping that Eldo will be open Tues, or the CBR race in Long Beach June 7, but I have not heard yet. Maybe Como tomorrow.

Any of the faster San Diego group rides going?

It isn't set all that low, I had it at 89% of my 12 minute effort from 3 weeks ago. May be a few watts low now. But this ride, riding at 85% felt almost like zone 2, even though I'd get tired riding over "threshold". Hopefully it is on the move or getting ready to move. Gonna raise it 8 watts based on this latest ride. Still poverty especially given my weight.

two big weekend workouts to round up the work phase of Sweet Spot Base I High Volume, yesterday was 3x30 @ 90% and today 4x20 @ 90%, CTL is 81 at the moment. Easy endurance week and then we'll see where I am for SSB2, but I still anticipate having the same FTP going into the next phase.

I had been following up my inside rides with outdoor rides with my son, but he's moved on from cycling and never wants to ride anymore, good thing I spent $250 on a road bike that he begged for lol

As an adult, when I get the hots for something, buy it and then abandon it, I call it a white elephant.

Big_John The nemesis part. My wife got into racing when she was 30+ in late 80's. She was not a cycling fan, or groupie as I was. This old guy would always suck her wheel up the Camp Pendelton hills then sprint around her at the end. I pointed out that was John Howard. "Who? He just sucks wheel." Anyway some of us dropped guys had a laugh about it.

Dang. That's a lot of time at 90%. Nice effort.

Not sure, haven't looked into it yet. RE: surges, yeah, I don't surge much and prefer to not really open it up unless there is a long open section. I take (petty) pleasure in people that fly by me in busy sections, esp if there is open road coming up.

My really big ride wasn't in the books today, so I settled for ~80 miles instead with some hammering here and there. I'm thinking I'll do my monster one at the end of this block (first weekend in June). Also, I'm not sure what I'm training for! But it feels good to be 4 or 5 hours into a ride and have plenty in the tank and want to hammer more.

I was informed today that it is not really surging if everyone knows you going-to do it.

There are such things as generational rules.

Unlike TMonk, 80 miles is still more than I'm fit for.
Was aiming for more, but dirt is hella slow, and I'm slower than dirt. Rode to Fairfax, did some hard gravel climbs and some fun double track descents, pinch flatted and then went slow cuz another flat would have been an hour of hiking in cleats followed by a hitch hike.

70 miles today and maybe ~350 TSS. When I don't have a power meter I take Strava average power, and guesstimate normalized power from that. Good enough for the spreadsheet.

Not sure, I haven't paid much attention myself either. By this point road is nearing the end of season in SoCal anyway. I would be stoked if they started up the local (non-USAC) track and TT series though. The former still makes me a big uncomfortable (mass start racing/riding in groups).
