Hot deals - post 'em if you got 'em.

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Has anyone shopped at Best Bicycles Online Store - Buy all types of Bicycles ? They seem to have decent deals like the one below (older shimano 5800 group)

105 5800 11-Speed Groupset - Bicycles Online Shop

I inquired, and they responded. Just seems like something may be off? They offered to invoice via paypal.

Well, the fact that my browser security stops me from even connecting to the site isn't a good start. In general, though, "if you have to ask..."

FWIW, Merlin Cycles usually has the best deals on groups. If someone is significantly undercutting them, it would raise red flags to me.

I get a privacy error message when I try to open the links. Something is off. Did you do any google homework on them? Do they have a prominently displayed phone number on their site? That factor alone is one of the most telling things based on my experience.

If you google their address, it shows up as a mall, which seems like sort of an odd place to have an online bike shop. Also odd is the fact that they don't run https for their website. My web browser was not happy about me visiting an unsecure site. I personally wouldn't use them, but the deal may outweigh the risk for you.

I don't know anything about them but that web site does look a little off. I noticed their encryption certificate is out of date and self-signed which in non-technical terms means do not trust. Also it looks like they took a standard web site template and didn't do anything to personalize it. No blog posts, links to recent comments, categories, archives go nowhere. I'd skip if it were me.

BTW...I have 5800 105 and like it a lot.

Thanks guys for the input. I agree - I will avoid this unless they provide some solid proof to me that they are a legit shop. If there is any fraud though, paypal will probably handle it...

If a purchase is processed by Paypal, I assume the seller has to be provided the buyer's name and address for shipping, no? Ie. some fraud scams are out there just to collect personal data.

A name and address is easy to get, but Paypal doesn't release anything other than that.

I bought a set of 28s from Amazon for $72.49, last month. I didn’t realize that was such a good deal. There going for $90, now.

Were yours tubeless? I've seen the non-tubeless variety going for that price (bought 1 because my rims can't run tubeless so why spend the extra), but not the tubeless below $80.

I've never purchased from these guys before, but they do seem to have been mentioned on this forum in the past as being reliable.

Continental Grand Prix 4-season $32.99

Continental 5000 (not tubeless) $34.99

I made my first order with them on Friday and my shipment should be arriving on Tuesday. Got that deal on the 5000s, but great prices on some Assos bibs and Shimano cleats. Shipping is always a flat $7.

Haven't used them, but EuroBikeParts has the current 105 group for $500.

Hm. When I sort by price, I get the message:
If you have to ask, you can't afford it. Have a nice day.

Seemed good enough of a deal for me to pick up a pair in the 25mm size to replace a cut Yksion Pro UST tire. Schwalbe Pro One Tubeless, $34.34 each at Competitive Cyclist. It’s the older version without the newer Addix compound.

If you want wider and the newer compound: Merlin has those for a few extra ... $37.91. They’re sold out of the 25s.

FYI the new version is narrower than the previous - their nominal size is made to reflect being mounted on wider rims; the new 28mm on 17mm int rims measure out to ~26mm.
