Hard skin as a result of cycling

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

After a few weeks of early season riding, any skin that is constantly rubbed on the saddle will toughen up. Including taint, ballsack, butt cheeks/arsehole region, and inner thighs. If the saddle fit or adjustment is not optimized for the individual, there can be pressure points that are rubbed too hard to be toughened and will get raw or irritated.

This is a fairly common issue among pro cyclists. Luckily, it's easily treatable with a one hour ice water dunk every night.

No. But then again, I follow a very specific & stringent daily beauty regimen. It involves a lot of moisturizing cream.

OP: until you can HTFU, try Bag Balm liberally. Works marvels so your sensitive parts are not looking like bacon.

Sounds like there's friction and rubbing where there shouldn't really be any weight to begin with. You want the weight further back on the sit bones, and the skin can definitely toughen up around there. If you use bike shorts you can pull uhm, your boy parts, up and out of the way.

Sergal wool shirts with real leather chamois. If you didnt start out riding with these you have no clue. The shorts when new were exquisite to wear and ride in. Washed only by hand in Woolite and hung to dry. After several washings the chamois would start to toughen. After a few months of washing and wearing the chamois turned to a cripy hard shell taco. Chamois cream didnt exist or at least not in the states. Compounding the condition was the quick dry method employed by most cyclists. Wash in Woolite and put the shorts out in the hot summer sun to dry. At that point in the riding season your butt was toughened like an old baseball mitt. That taco shell chamois was easily siftened by butt sweat produced by wearing wool in 90 degree heat. Those were the good old days.

Wore those for many years and it caused great suffering, but it never put a callus on my scrotum.
