Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Can It Be Done?

i was thinking of riding my fixed gear up Mt. Evans this year. (14,000') I done it with a gear bike but never with a FG. Can it be done and if so, what type of gearing should I use?

Figure out what gears you used most when you did it on your geared bike, and pick one of those.

I've been kicking this around a bit, not Mt Evans but I spend a lot of time on the Blue Ridge and have a couple favorite climbs. Just like Rolla says, I am going to gear one of my SS bikes to exactly what I use to climb on the Parkway, in this case it would be as close as I can get to 34/28 and go with that. I don't expect to do much more than coast coming back down. .

I'm not exactly sure what the point will be, just a hat trick kind of thing, good for a photo op.
