Hi all,

My 2012 Cannondale Supersix got stolen about two weeks ago. I had over 5,000 miles on it, and it meant the world to me, but I take full responsibility for what happened and have resigned myself to it being gone. I'm now considering as direct a replacement for it as possible, and have come across a Cannondale Six that the seller is asking $900 for (pics attached).

I will mainly be using it for my commute to work in Portland, OR - which involves 1,500 feet of elevation round trip everyday, and longer rides (40 to 50 miles) on weekends. The Supersix worked great for me for this kind of usage. Is the Six a reasonable replacement for the Supersix? It's a bit older isn't it? I can't really afford much more. Thanks!

oh man that sucks.

That six is okay, but I see a few things that give me pause, immediately.
1. The red sticker on the down tube hides... what.. ?
2. That's an odd looking setback seatpost. it will change the fit characteristics of the bike
3. what are those shifters? microsfhift?
4. is this a frankenstein project? does it all work well together or will you find all sorts of weird issues down the road?

It's worth noting that the CAAD10 is the same geometry, just in aluminum. As such, it goes for cheaper. It's also going cheaper because it's been replaced in the cannondale lineup by the CAAD12 current model.

What size was your supersix? If you can find a CAAD10 in your size, you might just be able to slot right into it and have it feel just like your supersix underneath you.

Thanks for the reply! Yeah, I was wondering about the sticker too and figured I'd be able to check it out when I actually see the bike.

Funny that you should mention the CAAD10. At the time I was torn between that and the Supersix, and I went with the Supersix on account of the carbon frame. After riding a carbon frame these past four years, do you think I'll see any significant disadvantages going back to aluminum?

looking at your setup, you prob want a frame with a higher stack, supersix/caad10 has a very aggressive geo

That's not his bike he posted photos of, it's the Six that is for sale. We don't know anything about his setup but if he's been riding a SuperSix comfortably since 2012 it's reasonable to assume that the CAAD10 which has almost identical geometry would be a suitable replacement.

IMO, no. You'll notice more difference from riding wider tires with lower pressure than switching frame materials. I have a carbon Trek Madone, and I've rented/borrowed aluminum BMCs and CAADs over the years when on vacations. They maybe have a bit more "buzz", but that could easily be the 23mm tires on the rental bikes at 110 psi when I normally run 25s at about 85-90.

The CAAD is a great frame in any of the CAAD8/9/10/12 flavors.

Thanks for all the insight, it is appreciated. I decided to take a pass on the Six, and instead am going to have a look tomorrow at the CAAD 10 pictured...a real beauty. We'll see how it rides.

Someone at Cannondale is evidently a fan.

When I was racing collegiate, the West Virginia University team all rode on those Gulf-colored CAAD10s. Looked pretty cool to see the bikes together on the roof of their team van.

I wonder if this one was built up from the frame? When this color scheme was offered, they were selling the CAAD10 with 105 5700. It appears the one you're going to look at is fitted with 105 5600 (note the exposed cables coming out of the levers).
