Cougar to left of the oak
Los gatos
Made my way up to the Berkeley hills to try out a new fork. The smoke has everyone sequestered so had the hilltops to myself...and the wildlife. While scanning the slopes for a single track down into Wildcat Canyon, I spy a cougar, to the left of oak, checking me out. Also had a hawk fly in on me while taking a break. Caught him as he was waving goodbye. Stopped at the Nike site for a picture with a few cats.

A nice little ride with a friend on my Brand spankin' new(to me) Peugeot Road bike across town to Sequoia park and back . . .Soon to put drop bars back on when I earn enough points new at the bike kitchen to get new levers and hoods.

Rode to my heart Drs office where he took me OFF the bike for the next couple weeks until all my medical tests are done and digested. But it was a lovely ride through country areas, quiet neighborhoods and great coffee break in between.

One of my riding partners, who always held point, started laying back for a couple of rides. Then he complained of cramps in his left side. Told him I had no cpr expertise and he needed to talk to his doctor. Three months later...he's back at the front again after a quadruple bipass. Hope the best for you.

In a car and windows rolled up is the only way I want to "bump" into one of those beauties.
It always make me wonder how safe it is riding in the middle of the northern Minnesota wilderness.

Bethany Beach Boardwalk
I did a casual 13 mile ride on my Schwinn Supersport today. First stopped at South Coastal library then CVS to pick up a DVD from Redbox. I then went to boardwalk to check out the people, beach an ocean. Really a pretty day, right at 50 deg. with a NW wind at 10 to 13 mph.

Today some fine French steel and I paired up to do a birthday ride. That's a 50+forum thingy where you ride your age. The bike du jour was my 1983 Peugeot PFN-10. Okay, it wears tubulars now though the N designation meant it originally wore clinchers, so now it is really just a PF-10. Vitus 181 tubing, Mavic GP4 rims on Mavic 501 hubs, Simplex derailleurs (with the original style SJA222 FD), Stronglight 104bis crank. It's an easy bike to ride for a long distance.
I ended up with 55.68 miles. The fact that as of last Thursday I have been on this earth for 70 years is immaterial. The average age of myself and the bike is only 52.5 so I think that was sufficient to call today a success. Truth be told, I could easily have ridden another 25 miles, but several things made me turn around when I did. It gets late early this time of year. Temperatures were in the mid-40s. And road conditions were not great for carefree exploration. Check out this popular stop for cyclists, Fern's General Store in Carlisle:

Good on ya, Jim. I’ve been doing birthday = miles rides for about ten years now and have often exceeded my age. I figure I’ll bank those for later years.
I was also out on a bike today. It was very wet with all of the melting snow, so I was very glad to be on a bike with fenders.

The only real problem today (besides the road conditions) was the flat. My front tire went totally flat when I was less than a quarter mile from home. This sounds like a job for Stan's!

Thank you both, gentlemen. It was a good day. But I must say, when I returned home I faced the task of cleaning the bike. And my skunked rain jacket.
The only real problem today (besides the road conditions) was the flat. My front tire went totally flat when I was less than a quarter mile from home. This sounds like a job for Stan's!

I fitted the 9 speed brifter group and it was clearly unhappy about it. So I put on every shiny bit I could find and it's much better. Two weeks in Portugal and came back fat. The next day it snowed. Spent three days in spin class.
But today...TODAY!!!... the sun was shining and the pacement kinda clear, so put in 32 glorious miles on the Colnago.
No flats. No birthday. Just fun.

Lake Mineral Wells State Trailway
Saturday's weather in our area was simply glorious!!!
(Mid 50's to 70 degree high)
A good friend called up on short notice and suggested we do this ride on such a beautiful day.
We drove about an hour west to ride on a gravel trailway between Weatherford and Mineral Wells, TX.
It's 20 miles each way but due to a recent rains washout we got in 33 miles having to turn around at 16.5 miles.
It was a terrific 3 or so hours on our bikes.
While taking a break a honey bee was fascinated by one of my cork grips.
Note pic of sign that describes small midway point community's claim to fame regarding a domino game.
Courthouse pic is in Weatherford as is cool old restored gasoline station.
Overall it was one of those very special days out on our bikes.

Defiling my classic Peugeot and taking it off road and on trails. Did a ride across town one way, did some off road/CX with my mtb friends, tearing upnthe trail, then back home.

@Andy_K emailed mid-week and asked if I wanted to ride. It's been unseasonbly dry and not too cold in mid-November Oregon, so of course I said yes. It was the standard Neal Lerner Invitation Ride, which probably should have it's own thread for the many times we've ridden it (with and without Neal).
Andy had stayed up late the night before putting new consumables and adjusting his new to him 1969 Raleigh Competition. We stopped at the usuall spot for breakfast and pastries to take home to wife and kids.d
