I like the aluminum bar idea and you can polish it to a brilliant shine, it would look great.

Here's my little display of derailleurs, on a shelf in a converted gun cabinet. I used the Cyclone GT on my Bikecentennial ride way back then, and the Campy before that.

A very eclectic collection of things on that shelf, RR. I like it. You look like a man of my own tastes. I've got to ask. What is that bulbous gizmo on the left hand side?

Bolt that fits through the mounting hole, with a small rare earth magnet epoxied to the end? Then stuck them all to a nice metal sheet framed in fancy wood?

I do work for an amazing place here in VT. They make prototype "retail environments" (commercial furniture). 'Stuff that fills foot locker, Bruggers Bagles, CK stores etc. I should scrounge around for some of the left over stuff and make something cool.

That's a very clever idea. I've used some small rare earth magnets and they're amazingly powerful for how small they can be.
That would look cool.

It's a '50s vintage microscope illuminator. I use it as a very bright source to clean telescope optics. The long glass thing on top is a 1966 American Optical model 3100 He-Ne laser plasma tube. Most of the cabinet is full of vintage laser & holography bits.

BUMP!

A package from rootboy arrived this evening. I was totally blown away by his work! He used 5/8 aluminum and machined 10 posts, threaded on each end (one end M10 x 1.0, the other end 1/4in). These posts are gorgeous, it really puts pressure on me to make the remaining work live up to the quality of the posts.

So, a HUGE thank you to rootboy. Your generosity and craftsmanship really blow my mind.

Oh, the tree is my wife's thing. She is fairly Christmas obsessed, especially now that our daughter will be turning one this December. Our tradition for the past 9 years, is to put the tree up on Thanksgiving night. She's been listening to Christmas music since Halloween.

I like that rootboy, the possibilities are endless in how to display them with those mounts. The first thing I thought of was a piece of painted peg board with either LED or Fiber Optic lighting filling all the holes in between. I have a few pieces of round brass stock I could chuck up in my buddies lathe and make a few mounts like that, it's such a simple design.
