Found myself a PX10 Fixer upper....
Got this frame off craigslist today. Its originally blue, been horribly sprayed black right over top of the original paint. Serial # shows 6 Digits...so late 60s maybe? Simplex drops, Simplex 26.6mm seatpost, French BB, Stronglight Comp headset, Nervex Lugs. 54cm frame I believe. Gonna build it back up to stock and my GF and I will have his and hers blue px10's. Cant get better than that. Never stripped a whole frame before anyone have suggestions to help me out in this? I know aircraft remover would work but what do people use to stip the paint? Anything Special? Hope you all approve.

I own another px10, I actually know what to look for. The stays are chrome under the paint. You can see the chrome on the fork as well but its all been painted over. Its got simplex drops, and stronglight comp headset, and nervex pro lugs, along with a 26.6mm simplex post. The only question is what year is it.

Sorry, I disagree that it's 60's PX-10 (if it's a px-10 at all really) since the decals are rectangular instead of like a shield. You should check out this website to confirm whether or not it is:

OMG! It's raining PX10's!
Of course I agree it's a PX10, Andy, but I don't think the serial number tells us anything at all about the year. I think you are right in estimating ~ 72ish, based on the other details.
Looks to be an expensive, but fun and very rewarding project.
I can't advise on how to strip it, but I was curious on how you plan to paint it.

Pre-'74 with a shallow curve fork.....
And I'll concur, all signs point in one direction....PX10.
PX10's are easy the easiest Peugeot to ID, not because of the features but because of the lack of features. When I get back from vacation I'll do a comprehensive PX10 thread.

haha, sorry I wasnt yelling I was being firm! Only because I do know what to look for with these bikes. The stickers are long gone...but I did the ole' tap the tube and listen for double butted goodness and I weighed the frame. With all the parts on it that you see it was just under 8 lbs. Sounds about right to me.

There have been a ton of px10 sightings lately....whats going on with that? I have NEVER even found a U08 and oddly enough I actually want to find one. I kinda think it would be a neat grocery getter townie bike.

I spy fancy lugs, chrome fork tips and stays and the inoxydable sticker on the seat tube. Looks like a PX10 to me.

Here's my px-10 fixer-upper before I buffed the chrome a bit and got some new hoods.
If you're stripping the paint try the cheapest weakest strippers first, they might be able to peel off the spray paint without taking off too much of the original finish, it might be worth a shot, I had that happen to me with a miyata I just finished refurbishing. Yours looks like a nice project for sure! I've enjoyed all the px10 threads lately.

I know what would definitely work. A rubbing compound like wax that is very mildly abrasive. BUT that would be a TON of work. Maybe something like a buffer or some other power tool could do the work for you?

Nice, yours is in a color I have never seen on a px10...that light blue. Also it has universal centerpulls...italian brakes instead of the Mafac's. Have any more pics of the whole bike? I think you have a good idea maybe I can just strip the black and somehow retain the blue underneath.

I've seen mineral spirits soften up some rattlecan enough to allow it to be wiped off... I've used the store-brand paint stripper in a spray can, it might have even been something for furniture. I bought a low-odour kind that cleaned up with water. I used it to strip off this gold paint only to find 3 or 4 more layers of paint under it that the stripper didn't touch at all. I'd use some fine 3M scotch-brite pads to do most of the scraping instead of a brass brush if I were trying to save the paint underneath.

If you click on the picture it'll take you to a flickr album. Here's the thread that kind of ID'd the bike as 60s pug and has lots of discussion. It's one of my favourite riders now.
