Who made the "Performance" - bikes with True Temper AVR Chromology double-butted?
Performance is sadly gone, but their bikes come up from time to time.
I've been looking at one with " True Temper AVR Chromology double-butted frame tubes" in a nicely lugged frame and wonder, does anyone know who made these frame sets for Performance?
I would guess country of origin Taiwan?

I kind of, remember them. If they're like the mid-80's - early 90's MTB's like my Fuji Mt Fuji, Diamondback Axis and Schwinn High Sierra, they were manufactured in Japan superbly. Some of the above have fillet brazing as well as TIG areas.

I got Performance catalogs from late 1988 onward for many years. I remember seeing catalogs with lugged Columbus frames in the mid-'80s. By around 1990 I only recall welded True Temper frames when Lance was their poster boy.

Performance frames were made by a variety of manufacturers.
Check the serial number, it can be used to determine the frame manufacturer.
I have seen a Performance bicycle, made in Taiwan, with a KHS serial number. KHS is known to have used True Temper AVR tubes.

Different company, but I saw this Nashbar bike on CL that looks like it was made by GT. I would not be a bit surprised to find out they did make it.
