One of the problems to get these produced is that these are not all quite the same. The 7700 is different from the 7700-C which is different from the 65xx/55xx. The 6500 is different from the 6501. The 6510/5510 is also a little different from the prior models. It is somewhat interchangeable but not perfect. If using the Flightdeck feature, the buttons also are varying.

Check with eBay seller taw2679. He was doing small runs of older not available Ultegra hoods. I got hoods for my 6500 from him. They fit well and were reasonably priced.

Thanks for all of the feedback, folks... I'll be seriously considering a full Dura Ace 7700 group set for my next "slightly modern" build now. Previously I only had Campagnolo stuff on my radar but I keep running across bicycles sporting this stuff that just look rather fabulous (like the Zullo below), and my previous experiences using Shimano's STI system were always enjoyable. Cheers!

oh?! and, what was your experience? how well did the dip adhere? and, did it remain flexible? it'd kinda suck to dip the hood and then it won't stretch back over the shifter. maybe paint it on?

Well if we are sharing... I tore this completely down to have some major paint damage fixed. Original plan was to rebuild with a Dura Ace 7400 setup. Instead I went with a DA 7700 build too. Only a couple of rides in before the snows came but man did everything work well.

it repairs cuts fairly well, but it's hard to mold. Sanding makes it fuglier.
to the hoods, just fine.
yes.
I applied it to the underside and outside of the hood while it was on the shifter.
I let it sit a week, then trimmed with an Xacta knife without pulling or stretching. I then tried sanding the rough spots. Not advisable.

i don't know. i have a can of clear i'll be using on my chimney. i'll see how it goes on when i get to that. if it looks like it'll do the trick on the hoods, i'll consider getting a small can of black spray. kinda want to try the flex seal, first
on that note, it occurred to me dipping may not be the protocol as it will likely "thicken" all the attachment points underside of the hood. so, it may not reattach properly, if you know what i mean. spray might be the option; attach the shifter to some disposable bar and do some masking. then spray
or, just hold my horses for a couple of months

What timing.
Today, a guy reached out, “having problems.”
He has a 2006 Scott, a beauty.
Full 7800.
He needs a new big ring, teeth are long gone, and the nubs are razors.
Cassette is dished semicircular between cog teeth.
R shifter shifts fine, but the assembly moves inside the body, wiggles back and forth.
I mentioned an upgrade. Huge faux pas.
Mavix Ksyrium SL’s, polished.
He made the mistake of taking them to get trued for the first time in 14 years.
Wrench used the Mavic plastic tool, destroyed the nipple. At least only one.
UPDATE:
Took off the face plate, body/assembly bolt was loose.
Continued disassembly and found the bolt had come loose at the back.
Got it back snug, cleaned all parts, waiting for them to dry before white lithium and reassemble.
These 7800's have 14 years of 4,000 miles/year and this is the first maintenance, ever.
The rings are shot, cassette is shot, chain is long ago shot, but the shifters will be fine.

I run DA 7400 and DA 7700 on most of my bikes. I recently built up a Merckx Corsa Extra with all 7400 components except the STIs which are 7700. I had a few 7700 STIs so I decided to try running an 8 speed cassette and derailleurs with 9 speed shifters. There has been a lot of debate on many sites as to whether you could use 7700 shifters with 7400 components. I can attest that it works really well.

Additionally, all the 10 speed road rear shifters, (except ST-4700), will index correctly with the RD-74xx over 9 speed Shimano spacing. Not sure about the front shifting compatibility though.
