Frameset - $100 to $350 (something pretty special.)

Not sure if what I have qualifies, but I am pretty sure I have a 60's Raleigh 10 speed. 60 or 61. Can check the serial number in the morning. It came to me with an 8 speed internal shimano hub on rear and my brother rode it around town like a speed demon. I got the original mechs , stem and drop bars when I got the bike. The owner gave them to me with the bike. The crank might be original. Has a heck of a patina, blue base paint. If you have any interest, will send photos.

Might be outside your time frame, but I have a 24 1/2" Raleigh Grand Sport frame from (I think) 1972 or 73. Frame is in good shape, paint and decals very rough. I've been holding on to this for a someday repaint or powder coat, as so many folks seem to love these bikes--- but I have too many projects in the queue. I have some of the original parts still hanging around, but not all.

i have a '68 px-10 that was painted (not very well) and had some braze on's added by Bilenky. It fits around 30mm tires if i remember correctly. If you dig there is still a for sale post from me in it on this site. I'll make you a deal if you have interest.

I also have a '68 Carlton Flyer which chrome lugs, green original paint with patina that i'd sell pretty cheap. Pics of that are all over as well but if you have interest i'll send you what you need.


EDIT: oh right, and they're both around 62cm.

I could part ways with my Allegro... 60 cm frame, serial number points to 1960. I love it, and have ridden it on a few 200 - 300 km rides, but I don't ride it enough to justify the space. I'm not sure it qualifies as a project, though... it's in good riding condition now. Plenty patina, though!

Shown here with a Stronglight 49-D crank that isn't original; I am now using the original crank, which is a Stronglight 57 in good condition. Shown here with bar end shifters, which is correct, though the shifters I used were not correct. I'm now using downtube shifters; they work better.

Hello Brent,

Now that Bob Jackson has announced that they've reopened their doors I'm on a mission to have a custom frame built by them as a show of support... I've decided that after I finish the 1954 Carlton Super Python I will sell it to fund that project. I believe you've seen my thread already. It currently sits like in the photo below, but with the beautiful Constrictor BOA pedals and a gorgeous Brooks B15 Champion Narrow in hand. On the way are a rare Bluemels spearpoint celluloid front fender and fresh white cable housing.

If you're interested in finishing it off (it needs headset, bottom bracket, freewheel and hubs overhauled, and possibly a slight tweak of the fork, though the old BH Racelite front wheel seemed to fit squarely) then I can sell it for a reasonable price.. It would be more than your $800 including all of these rare parts, but without a select few it could get into that range.

Let's see, in fact as it's shown in the photo below but without the saddle and rims, I can do $700 (I would simply unlace the rims, which I'd like to keep). I'd be out about $200 but that'll likely be the case when I finish and sell it anyway! If you'd like all of the other components as well then we can discuss things, plus we can see about my bringing it to SF so that it doesn't risk damage in transit.

Obviously a very special bike... Frame size is 24.5" c-t seat tube and 23" c-c top tube, or 61x58.5 c-t-c.

I recently acquired a 1954 Carlton road bike. Frame is full Reynolds, size is 61cm ctt. All original with exception of Simplex derailleurs. Really needs a restoration.

I am not in a place to buy a new bike but I am curious what you think the largest tires that would fit on your Flyer. I have a plan to have a Carlton eventually and it could be a Flyer.

I'm in the market for *one* new bike this season (besides the hopeful Bob Jackson), and am looking very carefully. I always presumed the Flyer frame was taller than 62cm though, looks like a 64. They were measured to the top of the seat tube, so knowing that size in inches would be most appropriate... Cheers!

Here's your thread about it, Holiday. You call it a 25" frame, which makes sense (the Carltons had the full inch increments while the Raleighs got the half inches, strangely). So that'd make it about 62.5cm center-to-center, I suppose... Almost big for my tastes as well. Almost!
