Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

FSA crank/bottom bracket creaking

So after 700 miles my FSA SLK cranks/bb has finally bit the dust. Probably just the bb but I'm in no mood to swap out the ISIS for another ISIS. Help me pick the replacement. Looking for the best bang for the buck.

Bike is campy record drivetrain. I'd love to go Chorus or Record UltraTorque but I'm hoping to spend less.

Considering SRAM Force for the quality/weight/price point. Other suggestions highly appreciated.

Here's the bike.

Why don't you just fix it? I had a similar condition with my bb. A little bit of teflon tape fixed it.

I had a similar issue with mine (same crank), the bb could never get tight enough and creaked... FSA replced it for me.

SRAM Red. It goes with Campy or Shimano.

You should never have to use teflon tape to fix anything on your bike. FSA has been to know to have crappy crank bolts. You should mail it back to them.

Funny after 2000+ miles my new 2007 Tarmac expert w/ FSA crank has been creaking when I stand or put huge pressure on the pedals while climbing....I tried to tighten the bolt and it got super tight but after one ride it was creaking again....what should I do?

Send the bike to me. It is broken and cannot be repaired. I will take it care of it for you.

Yeah some teflon tape might destroy the bike.

Send the BB back to FSA, they're pretty good about replacing crapped out BBs. Once you get the new one sell that bad boy and replace with a Token/KCNC ISIS BB, Lighter and much better quality!

I had a POS FSA crank that developed a creak after about 1500 miles. Tried all kinds of things including replacing the BB. The guys at the shop thought the noise was probably the splines on the crank arm causing the noise.

I replaced it with Shimano. It weighs a bit more, but I'm much happier.

It's a bike not pipes. If you need teflon tape then something is obviously wrong.

Yep I am going to talk to FSA...I am totally bummed though. I am smack in the middle or race season and can't be taking off a few weeks of training while I send out a BB....any chance they would next day one?

Since the bottom bracket does not have any threads on it I can see why you would not want to use teflon tape on it.

uh what?

Ordered the Crank Brothers Cyan BB, CrMo. $62 shipped, 5yr warranty. If it still creaks it'll be the arms.. otherwise if it fixes the problem it'll be the cheaper route to fixing the issue. I'll upgrade later.

Perhaps that was to complicated/sarcastic to grasp?

You appear to have the mechanical skill set of a monkey.
Further comment in pointless.
That is all.
