I've had a kickstand on my commuting bike but I only parked it in those bike stands so I never used it. For a racing bike, I would think it's unnecessary.

I don't mind a kickstand, I have one bike with one. It depends how much you stop and get off your bike when you ride it. It seems silly to have a carbon fiber machine fall over and you generally cringe when that happens.

I used an Upstand for a while, then stopped. I hated that the attachment point (the metal bit clamped in the rear skewer) gets torqued around by the attached stand itself if there is any forward-backward movement while the bike is leaning on the stand. The metal piece has radial serrations to keep it in position, but unless your QR is locked very (very) tightly, all it does is chew up paint around the dropouts.

My carbon bike has several times been blown over when leaning against a tree. I watched it happen once, just out of reach and something inside me died.

Cripes, just lean it carefully against something, but if you must lay it on the ground, do so gingerly and keep the drive side up....
