Not me. Sticking with that 52/36 up front bit then spin out the 11 on the back while looking like a hamster in a wheel

lol I recently compacted my commuter from 52/36 to 50/34, and I've got 11-32 in the back. I use 34/32 every day (going over Camino Del Norte), and I basically never use the 50.

Interestingly, I think the bike I'm eyeballing comes with 52x36. I kind of miss it. If I steer clear of really steep hills (and my driveway) a standard crank would probably be fine too.

Imperial / cannon would kick my ass, as would the ski lifts and/or the tramway in Palm Desert.

I did Oak Glen with 52/36 and an 11-25 in the back. It ain't that hard. Just gotta be ready to stand, or grind.

But for the sake of full disclosure, over last year's miles, I averaged right at 4ft/mi more vertical on the heavy bike with the 11-42 than the light bike with the 11-25.

52/11 will get you to around 40 mph at a reasonable cadence or 45 spun out. After that its top tube tuck.
There is one TT I do where I was considering a 56 but that only adds ~3 1/2 mph. Don't think the cost of new crankset and rings are worth it

I was going to add... "yeah, if you ride 10,000 miles a year"

It really comes down to how much power you can put out- if you can keep an 39/25 gear rolling at 60 rpm plus, you will probably be fine.

I already did the lifts, got the picture to prove it. I did it with that weird sneaker-wearing, bad fashion guy. @PhotoJoe can attest to the magnificent event but he turned around at Ice House because he's smarter than the rest of us.

I'm thinking of driving to Escondido Friday, how are you fixed for lunch plans.

I'll keep you posted. Plan A is to get down there at 10 am, not sure how long I'll take so I'll keep you posted. I still have your cell number.

It would be TOO BAD if I had to sit at Stone all by myself while you were some meeting on a Friday afternoon.

Just 2.25? With that Lefty, you could have an asymmetric tire which is half 2.25 on the left, and half 4" fatty on the left!

@RubeRad in the pic I have a 2.35 nobby nic up front and a 2.1 racin Ralph rear. Competitive cyclist has these $70 tires for $33 each so I just evened it up. Front will be a bit more quicker steering now. No need to 29+ tires plus it would suck mounting on a narrow rim

btw you get used looking down at the lefty after a while. First ride is a trip though
