So, THE Best Schwinn Road Bike; BAR NONE?

So, what was the best Schwinn road bike to ever grace the road? We all hear about the Paramount, but was it really the best?

Just thought I'd start a conversation about it...

Paramount of the Schwinns built in the USA, was the no holds barred top of the line.

The real question is, could a '68 Paramount have beaten the '68 Yankees?

I have not had many schwinn road bikes- except a Prelude, which was a great little bike.. emphasis on little (for me).. so i gave it to a student. But the same era Prologue in black/grey fade is top of my wish list.

I do think they should have named them a bit more clearly... Paramount, Prologue, Prelude... makes the Tempo stand out I guess!

How about we combine these two response for the right answer.

It is a Paramount, and it is made from Tange Prestige.

I sold my Prologue, I sold my Waterford Paramount, I kept the above. Nuff said.

For fancy lugs, the Chicago Paramounts are it, otherwise it is the Waterford Paramounts.

I hope not, because I have a 2013 Paramount Series 8.... It is a really, really sweet bike, but I don't want to argue about it's providence to the originals....

I think the one I had at one time was a 1989 dressed in Dura-Ace 7400. I should have kept that bike as it was pretty much mint.

Mine is a '92, repainted a very dark chocolate brown. Many think it is black. What year is yours?

Well, supposedly these red, white, and blue ones were a prototype run by Panasonic to prove to Schwinn they could make bikes worthy of the Paramount name. So since the first PDG numbered bikes started in 1991 I guess these were done around 1990.

They also did a run of all white ones that were welded, not lugged.

Thanks!

Ironic thing is that riding all these wonderful bikes does take away from my real photography passion, wildlife and landscapes.

Here too I prefer old to new. I use sorta modern Canon DSLRs but mainly shoot old manual focus Leica R and Contax Zeiss prime lenses that I adapted to work on the EOS mount.
