Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

LifeBeam Smart Helmet - Built-in HR sensor (no chest strap)

https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/320915/

"The world's first smart cycling helmet with an integrated heart rate sensor, allowing real time, accurate, hassle-free heart-rate monitoring without using a chest strap!"

They've teamed up with Lazer, so the helmets can't be too ****ty, and at only $149 (at least for the IndieGogo), the price isn't too bad!

What do you guys think?

It does look pretty cool.

I wonder if you can transfer it from one helmet to another, for example if you have a minor crash and need a new helmet.

Chest straps never bothered me so I wouldn't bother switching to a helmet. I also wear a headband in the winter if it's cold and I suspect their HRM wouldn't work through the headband.

I've replaced enough Garmin "Deluxe" heart rate bands to almost pay for one of these. If they're any more reliable, it might be worth a shot

Not a bad idea.

I'm not bothered by chest straps except on the rare occasions that static on the jersey interferes with the reading. I've got a CycleOps strap (same as the non-deluxe Garmin) that's lasted for years.

Having just cracked/replaced a helmet, I would need to know if the sensor is transferable. Otherwise, not a bad idea.

hmm...the chest strap isn't too much of a hassle, but it is an extra thing to do so...yea this is kind of neat.

It's pretty obviously not targeted at triathletes. They have one integrated into a sleeveless jersey for that market.

Not answered in the FAQ, but it looks like a cycling cap under the helmet would interfere with it?
