Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Chainring options for Sram Red Crank

Hi, I currently have a 2011 Sram Red 53/39T Crankset (Cannondale edition) on my BB30 CAAD10.

Looking to switch to compact rings, for a easier up hill.
Current cassette is 12-25, but bought a 12-27 for when my new wheels comes in next week.

So far, I've found them from Sram, and Praxis.
What other options do I have, what ehat are the differences?
If possible, I would like to take this opportunity as an upgrade if it doesn't hurt the wallet too much.

You'll need to buy a 110 bcd crank. Yours is 130 and cannot fit compact rings

Stronglight makes 50t in 130bcd. But for the small ring, 39t is the smallest for 130bcd.

I thought you could fit 38t on a 130mm? Not that that will help much.

Thank you for all the inputs, however from 39 to 38, it doesn't seems to be worth the change.
Guess I will have to save up for a complete new crankset...

Keep an eye on fleabay... whenever SRAM comes out with a new group (and i believe 22 is coming soon) some folks like to dump their old stuff for cheap. I got a Red compact crank and two sets of chain-rings for about 200 a year ago.

I'd probably look for the new Yaw chainrings if i were looking for new chainrings. They shift better than the older Red chain-rings. Obviously you need a whole new crank though.

I currently have the 2011 Sram Red Shifter, 2011 standard crank, Ti FD, but have a force FD on order.
Will my setup with the Force FD work with the 2013 non Red22 crankset?

They do make a 38 that will fit 130, but I believe it is intended for cross, and designed to work with a 46 big ring.

And yeah, your Force FD should work with a non-22 Red crankset.

It should, but if you're getting the new crank you should probably return the force FD and get the yaw version. It's not terribly expensive (either will work for you though)

Buy the new crank, sell the old one, should be almost even if you buy used/right.
