Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The only parts of TN that I’ve ridden in are near Sevierville, Maryville, Crossville, and Nashville. I’m not looking up their counties.

Sevier and Blount. On one of your warm weather swing-throughs you should go 64>75 and break out your climbing legs for another East Tennessee cycling experience.

The dumbest arguments I've gotten myself into (completely my fault) usually revolved around trying to make someone understand that another option was valid. The old me would be in the disc brake thread trying to make the OP understand why he's wrong to impart his opinion on the rest of the public as gospel, even though I don't own a disc brake bike. That or getting defensive when I expressed an opinion and was written off as fringe. But honestly, a waste of breath is a waste of breath no matter what angle you're coming from.

I was referring to "The Simpsons." They live in Springfield. The next town over is Shelbyville.

Car appointment at 7:30 this morning so I set my alarm for 6 even though I usually wake up around 5:45 but I don't want to oversleep like I occasionally do and since I have to cross the great Illinois River Basin and often the bridges are jammed and I might stop for breakfast on the way and it was supposed to be bibically pouring this morning which it isn't, I wake at 4:30 and can't get back to sleep which often happens when I go to bed knowing that I have to be up by 6.

The same thing happens to me. I have a strong enough circadian rhythm that I basically can't sleep in, and if there's something pressing I'm often up an hour early. Beat the alarm by half an hour this morning, so I guess the jet lag is gone.

This is a Twitter link to a video of a woman with a bird of prey. Evidently, I haven’t figured out how to embed Twitter links.

^^ Same. I am almost always up between 4:30 and 5AM. Rarely I am able to "sleep in" until 6ish, but that's like once or twice a month on a Sunday if I rode really hard on Saturday. I don't really HAVE to get up until 6AM for work but my body clock does what it does.

Since the weather for tomorrow is predicted to be unseasonably warm, we are planning a "tri-state" ride not only through parts of Delaware but into Maryland. Plan is 66 miles. Start temp around 50 and end temp may touch 60F. I am ok with that.

The CDC should be updating the weekly influenza report sometime today. So exciting! From what I can tell, it's a medium to bad flu season, hitting a bit earlier than usual, but the shot this year gives pretty good (not perfect, but good) protection.

So I did the fake miles last night and actually found what might be my favorite Zwift course. Most of them are fairly flat with one big climb which is fun and all, but being *ahem* a little overweight/basically obese means climbs are long slogs right now. I did the Sand and Sequoias route which is really cool because it has a short climb in there, but it's mostly rolling hills which is a lot of what I get out here. It's like riding one of my favorite sections of road local to me, but longer. And it has the nice flat lead in for a warm up. Anyway, I really enjoyed it.

Cold and raining. It was 7F yesterday morning. It's 33F this morning. My side walk is a sheet of ice and I'm out of rock salt.
