We had a good ride. I noticed my chain is skipping a little when on big ring in front and 2 largest cogs in back. Only under load. I can’t tell if skipping on cassette or chainring. Chain/cassette/chainrings are not obviously worn.
Suggestions?
I will try to duplicate on stand so at least I can tell if skipping on cassette or chainring but since only under load I may not be able to tell.

It's beginning to look a lot like trainer season, eeeevery where I roll...
Yeah, today's ride wasn't terribly pleasant. The cold, damp and wind isn't the worst thing in the world, but damn it I hate it when it gets slippery. We had a little bit of snow overnight - the ground was warm enough that it didn't stick on the roads, but bridges/overpasses had a nice crust on them and provided some, uh, clenched moments. That and and all of the wet leaves made for some slow going at times. I think that it's about time I fire up the trainer for workouts and just look to outside rides as more leisurely, get-out-of-the-house sanity breaks.

BUT...a clue? I noticed on big/big, when I back-pedal, within a few crank turns, the REAR goes to the 3rd largest cog (ie shifts over two cogs). The drivetrain does NOT seem to like the sideways deflection from cross chaining. I get that but this did NOT happen before.
Any ideas?

Update: I put bike on stand. Chain has ZERO stretch in it. Cassette and chainring do not look worn. I put in big/big and tried to get it to skip, and could not.

Edit: or both. By "worn" I mean there's side to side play on the chain and the excess tension pulls it off the sprocket.

I just lost my Sram power Dome Ti cassette this last spring from riding it on the trainer with an undiagnosed worn chain. Worked fine until the first outdoor ride almost put me over the bars.
