Due to wrong timing, I had to attend my daughter's school dance recital (3rd grade) wearing full kit (club jersey & bibs) and got weird looks from other parents. My bike was in the parking lot in the car.

Have you ever been in weird locations or situations wearing full gear without your bike nearby and felt odd?

At a couple of cathedrals in Europe, I didn't go too far beyond the entrance out of respect. I started bringing sports pants to slip on while on tour.

You didn't have any shorts or pants in the car you could've thrown on? Forgot about the recital? Just curious.

Was on a early Saturday solo ride the weekend before Memorial Day and passed Pinelawn National Cemetery. I've been there a number of times with my son's old BSA Troop for the "flag planting". I rode in and asked a group of old veterans if they mind if I place one flag. When they saw that I knew to use my foot to measure the distance they thanked me for taking time out of my ride. I thanked them for their service and sacrifice.

Next year i'll remember to join up with my son's old troop and go with them (in civilian cloths).

I went to a job interview in a tech tee, bike shorts, and bike shoes. I showed up 15 minutes early so I could change and the interviewer was standing there and told me to just come in.

I dont have a jersey but when I ride I wear the lycra cycling shorts, clipless shoes, a nike dry fit sports shirt, sunglasses, and helmet. Just two days ago I rode my wifes school dressed like that. While on campus I didn't really get strange looks but then I walked with here (and my bike) to a near by McDonalds and I embarressed the hell out of her. She went in to get something and I stayed outside with my bike. I found a spot that I thought was away from the door of the McD's and was waiting. While waiting I noticed that I needed to adjust my disc brakes. So not thinking anything of it I bend over and was fidgeting with my brakes. About three minutes later my wife comes out red in the face. Appareantly I managed to pick a spot that was right in the line of sight of the cashiers and they saw me bent over and were so distracted at the sight of my spandex clad behind that they couldn't focus.

Got a call from the hospital when I was on a ride, and had to walk in in cycling kit. After that, I keep a pair of jeans and a tee in my car, which I pull over the cycling stuff when I have to go direct to the hospital.

When not with an organized ride or group of similarly dressed individuals, I usually wear a sports T or runner's jersey (no back pockets), MTB pants or trekking shorts over bike shorts, and MTB shoes which don't stand out nearly as much as spandex and roadie footwear. In this rural area, cycling is fairly well accepted, but full kit is a bit much in the local cafe or convenience store.

On my commute home (and home from almost any recreational ride) I always pass this putt-putt golf course. I had gotten off work early one Friday and was passing by, when I heard someone yell, "Hey nice bike *******!" So I turn my head, about to shout back, and I see it's a few friends playing! So I joined them. Everyone else was busy sweating in the FL sun and I said something along the lines of, "I bet you guys sure feel stupid in normal clothes, all hot and bothered!"

What made it more amusing was that it wasn't a normal kit but a skin suit. It was just what I happened to quickly grab before work.

just got back from my local fishmonger for some tuna and scallops after my 52 miler, it was on the way and I had little to no protein in my house, got a few strange looks from customers but its a small open air place so my bike was no further than 20 feet from me. The staff didn't mind at all, one is a biker so we ended up having a good conversation about our rides today. Ended up getting a 10% discount out of it.

Leaving work. Sometimes, people just don't get it. They see you any other time in full kit and it's okay. But at work (leaving, that is), they get all juvenile. My attitude towards this type of behavior is, "So what"!
