Introducing my 1968 Carlton Flyer

So this really isnt done, but it's getting there. It needs a proper cleaning post build and some minor tweaks to the front fender. It might also get a fender swap to some Bluemel Airweight aluminum fenders I just came across. Here's the build list:

-'68 Carlton Flyer frame purchased off of Ebay last year for $75-ish. It's 531, 25". There was very slight damage to the downtube from an overtightened dt shifter, that's it.

- 700c wheels, mavic rims laced to low flange campy record hubs thanks to a early 80's Trek.

- GB Coureur "66" Centerpulls, thank's Neal!

-b-17 from ebay

- what I think is a Campy NR rally long arm conversion shifting a 34t 5 sp suntour freewheel

- Stronglight 93 (formerly french threaded) shifted by a campy front mech

- Honjo's, smooth, thin, came from a swap meet for $15 a few years ago. They cover 28c Paselas that will probably get changed to 25c soon.

- lyotard rat traps awaiting XL toe clips and christophe straps.

- Brooks leather bar tape in green. Not sold on this yet, I'm kinda thinking I went overboard on green and I should have gone honey...

- cheap tange levin HS off of ebay

- diacomp brake adjuster.

- campy bar ends

-gb stem

- crappy SR seat post that's a campy knockoff. I need to find a campy seat post in 27.2 for it.

- weinmann levers with Carlton hoods. I have GB levers that match the brakes but no levers, so I left them off for now.

- nitto 45cm rando bars. I think this, the HS, and the brake adjuster are the only new parts on this aside from consumables.

So like I said, I'm not sure if I went overkill with the green. Like I said, it needs some thing, and I'm looking for a proper saddlebag for it, but you get the idea.

Pics forthcoming.

sorry for the mostly crappy pics. it's hard to get good pics on an overcast day with a mediocre camera.

Lovely. Very cool calipers. It'd be nice if you found some Stronglight dustcaps down the road. I'm undecided on the green wrap. Can't beat how it feels, though.

Nice work, sir!

Is it a 25.5" like some Raleighs? I'm trying to tell myself I'm not jealous because it's a half inch too tall.

Fantastic machine. I love the Coureur 66 brakes and stem. The colored shifter covers are a fantastic touch also. Do your brakes have a single or twin-spring arrangement?

I have a similar frame in my size, also from ebay I hope to get properly painted and decaled someday...

BTW, I don't recall this one having derailer stops on the downtube, and I'll probably remove the brake cable guides from the top tube and the crossover stop from the stays, just because. I have another one pretty original, has no chrome though...

Very pretty. That's a great color, and you had me at the headbadge. Sorry to agree, but I think the honey tape might be an improvement.

Very very nice. How long did it take to bring it all together from when you picked up the frame.
