I had Biopace in 1987. Does that count as oval?

By the way. Profile Design can suck it. Design bottle cages with the sole purpose to be a BTS cage and eject my bottle God knows where on my FIRST ride with it. POS. It was a sweet spot ride, so the palate wasn't parched at all. If I was halfway out on a ride with some hard intervals and it were hotter out........I'd have been sending a strongly worded worthless email.

Instead, I'll pony up and buy Gorilla cages. Ughhhh.
What is a BTS cage? Is that a BurnTheSheep cage?

Behind the saddle. You know, a bottle launcher.

Well, might have just been the bump. I didn't notice, but lost my saddle bag also. That was jammed into an open bottle cage and it's gone also. I feel stupid. It has velcro, use it. Seemed tight enough in the cage. Oh well.

Went rippin last night and got the KOM on the 8mi TT out/back in town. Nothing spectacular as I was a bit tired, but 24mph at 50ft per mile (correction, 63ft per mile to be exact) in "road kit". But good trend on TSS for the week. Lunch run today.

Happy with progress. Need to do some shorter 3x8min open road now in TT to tickle up the 10mi power. Looking like I can hold 280w now for that. Now to try it with full kit before it gets cold.

did 3 sets of 3x3min vo2 stuff today. Workout designed to be done at 120%, but recent experience is showing me that isn't doable, I went with 330w (112%) and I was at 175bpm at the end of those (I hide my HR but it definitely felt at the limit), did the last 3 at 110%. It's not as impressive as nailing it at 120% but I'm trying to be smart and do what's achievable.

Probably going to be relatively easy until mid next month. We have a ton of family coming over mid October and I have a massive list of things to fix around the house. Unfortunately, these things take time and energy and I'm too much of a tightwad to hire someone.

My Oct-Dec looks crazy. Literally 4 weekends "open" between now and 2021. I've shifted my training schedule to just Mon-Fri, including a longer ride or two mid week as well. I can still get them done in time for work, but it means I'm collecting kilojoules at 5am instead of 630. I'm also not used to longer rides mid week either. Usually the weekend is great to do a ride because I can rest, the long ride plus a full day of work is pretty rough.

As a junior in the mid 80's I was broke and tended to ride whatever teammates would sell me for cheap. It wasn't always a value, but it kept me rolling (and also they did sometimes give me old gear they weren't using). One of those items was a biopace crankset after I bent a crank arm in a crash. I bounced around in the saddle at anything over 90 rpms on until I could replace it. Another fun Shimano innovation that never took off and that I rode for a while was a Shimano DynaDrive crank/pedal combo. It used an off center pedal attachment that lowered your center of gravity by about 1cm supposedly without decreasing pedal clearance. Fun stuff.

My 9 y/o keeps setting new PR's during our neighborhood rides, today we hit the 12.5mph mark for our hour. My power was 88w, 322kj, nice bonus on top of the 700kj during my "proper" morning trainer ride. I think since we started riding in March my power for rides has gone up 50w, at this rate I'll be doing 400w when he's 12 y/o lol

Today is 49th wedding anniversary. Yep, years not days although time has flown by. My wife took a vac day and wanted to ride her TT bike through Camp Pendleton to San Clemente on her anniversary and get our IDs renewed. We are going out for dinner this evening.

We set 3 Strava PRs on the ride north with slightly favorable wind conditions. We ride the course a lot with similar wind conditions and setting new PRs on long segments at 24 mph one shorter one at 27 mph seems amazing. This is when one loves Strava.

Is that the same as the seven year inch only now raised to the second power?

Presentation can be everything. On our 45th, we were driving to LA from NorCal to race at the Carson velodrome. When you spend 6 hours in the car, a lot of minutia gets discussed. Gee wiz, 45 seems so long. Instead of celebrating 45, let’s reset to one and act like newlyweds.

Now, we are coming up to the next 5 year increment. Another reset? And where did those 5 years go?

I checked my Strava account on the longer segment. It is generally downhill but has some slight up uphill sections as well that can increase time. Generally, I lead this entire section. This time it was 50/50 with a slight cross tail wind that was 4 mph and we reduced the time by 50 seconds but it was not a let’s kill this segment. I think all the TTT work on Fiesta is making all the rides seem easier.

197 miles between last sun and yesterday. Most miles I've had in my legs in a week since college.

Fit had really been an issue and my knee had been bothering me the same way it did in college forcing me to stop racing/riding. Went to a fitter a week ago and he moved my saddle forward by a bit more than half a cm. Went and rode 3-4 times and came back to get things looked at at which point he tried lowering the saddle. I adapted to the fwd saddle but didn't really feel right with the lower saddle so we moved the saddle back up and foward. Total fwd movement about 0.75-1cm (need to measure to confirm). Hoods and bars also repositioned.

I honestly didn't have super high hopes for anything but after a hard ride yesterday I'm cautiously optimistic.

I just think it's a bit funny since I was talking to CDR about fit/knee issues and he had mentioned that he had issues super early on and solved things by moving his saddle forward.

This was yesterday's ride. I felt pretty dang good.

Tomorrow I'm planning on doing a few repeats of this before calling it a day and going back to reality post vacation. Hopefully I'll be able to use the first or second one as a decent 20 min test.

The only harder climb I think I've ever done is this: https://www.strava.com/segments/3473

Saturday was a solid workout of 15/15's, yesterday was a disaster, basement is too hot and humid (nearly 80degrees and 70+% humidity) that it made my scheduled workout of 15min intervals at 95% pretty miserable from the early going. Doesn't help that recent conditions have had my training space sub 60 degrees and humidity in the 30s, made for some good training. My legs weren't totally there either from the prior day workout and possibly from a family hike we did of 2miles and evidently 200ft of climbing.

We did another short hike on Mt. Wachusett yesterday and also rode the ski lift to the summit (and wishing I had my bike because I've only ridden up once). Got to chuckle to myself when a cyclist got a bystander to take a pic of him holding his bike up over his head. I did end up jumping on a zwift race at the end of the day, one of the short crit city ones, so that was a good 20mins of over 90% intensity.

This is supposed to be an easy week, but my TSB is already positive. I really want to do a century this weekend (would be my third this year), but might not get to do that one I really want since it's near my parents' house and we're back with quarantine from them since my son is doing hybrid school. So may have to stick to something local.

Did the wachusett climb on Monday. Climb was pretty fun. Definitely challenging but mostly hard to get a rhythm going because it's flat ish sections followed by 9-10% kicks. Set a new 20min pwr record for the season so that was fun.

Was hoping to do it 3-4x because I had 2 hours but I ended up going down a fire road on my first descent and it was sketchy as hell. Ended up stopping a few times before getting sketched out and finally fell over coming to a stop after my front wheel got caught in a rut. Whacked my knee but wasn't too bothered by it and was able to do another climb, but lost a ton of time because I walked down the rest of the fire road after that.

Should really have just turned around and ridden up the fire road again. I'll have to assess the bike for any damage since the RD was shifting poorly after. I ordered a spare RD and have a few spare hangars for this frame. So I'll check alignment and fixing that will probably solve the issue.

Knee started to swell up a little and bother me way more than it has any business bothering me, but I guess that's what I get for driving 5-6 hrs after tweaking it. Just finished a 24hr call, so I'll look things over this afternoon and maybe try to ride the trainer for a bit.

Missed the TT regional, went out before lunch today just to see what I could muster. Windy. Flat. Could not get the HR up to a great hour power. But.......here we are.

I finally did it, sub hour. Never rode the route before, but it was fine. Lost time for full stop at stop sign once and then full stop then a slow start behind a mail delivery person once. Like, get a freaking move-on. It's a TT bike, but still you're getting passed by a bike. Let's call it 25 seconds lost versus a directed race course.

I'll take it. Power was terrible. Was hoping for around 270w. Only 252. Still proud to break an hour. I've always heard that's something to do at some point.

That sounds miserable.
I have a soft spot in my heart for WaWa. I went to med school 30 mins away, took snowboard and ski lessons there my last year. In the winter my gf and I would dip out there after getting out of the hospital to go night skiing and then go get dinner after. It's really hard to beat having something like it 30 mins away. I'd never ridden it so had to go for it when I was back in state visiting her parents. They'd left to go to NH earlier in the day so I head over there in the afternoon. Had a gnarly hangover in the morning because gf's mom kept slipping me G&T's. Haven't had one of those in a long time.

Re: weird decisions. I thought i could ride the brakes down. I really should have turned around, but I'm not *really* injured and the bike should be fine. RD was only 45 bucks if that's what it ends up being. Live and learn.
In any event, the nickname under my name checks out i guess.

Nice to finally see over 200 W on a 20 min interval though. Need to plan through how I'm going to 'train' for the next two x 2-3 month 'blocks' so to speak.
