I was riding just yesterday, had a rider get right up on me and then say on your left; about made me jump out of my skin. He was on an e-bike which I am seeing a parabolic increase in number on the road. I don't ride MUPs but some of the residential mountain roads I ride are used by walkers in a similar way to MUPs and the roads are not that much wider. I ride these residential roads only going uphill, so going slow and usually announce biker back from a good distance, most often to people walking dogs. I personally like bells; don't have one but plan on giving one a try. When I was near the top of the mountain yesterday, I got passed by another e-bike and the rider apologized for cheating. I wonder how many issues there is going to be with inexperience riders on e-bikes especially on MUPs; hopefully this doesn't end up causing much more animosity towards cyclists but a fear it will.

Turned out he was part of a supported group tour. The next few people who passed me also gave me late warning. I let one guy know that if I had to swerve to avoid something physics (I was riding a fully loaded bike) would likely make me the victor, like a semi colliding with a Miata.

Cyclists (nor motorists) can't sneak up on me, because I see them way in the rear before they get near, thanks to my mirror.

I passed a cyclist from the opposite direction and a pedestrian yesterday on an awkward part of the trail. All of us going super slow, like we were passing at the end of a grocery aisle. Neither of us on bikes said a word. The ped half hearted a "Jesus Christ." I immediately thought of Mr Slave and gave it my best impersonation.

I may only see a few riders when out and sometimes none. I tend to acknowledge everyone and usually get a reply. In the rare instance when I pass someone I'll swing wide or say something like "Good morning."

I pass plenty of people with a bar mounted mirrors. They must of of bought it when they got the bike thinking it was a good idea.
Most never look at them.
Riders with helmet/eye glass mounted mirrors seem to be more diligent.

Riding on some of the hairy roads I ride on, it's a very good idea to learn how to use a mirror. I guess on some MUPs people feel safe enough not to worry about what's behind them; out on the roads, I'm always having to make evasive moves due to people pulling in front of me.

Perhaps some people act "surprised" when strangers "call out" at them; some of them may even not be conversant with cycling club/"serious rider" practices or its "call out" lingo and may not respond as expected by the "caller."

Sometimes I forget that I am traveling 21MPH when I suddenly curve around and see a chick walking. I flew by. She threw her apple at me.

As a brand new rider, I've been thinking about this. There's a mountain trail I'm sure I'll want to try, but am afraid what happens if I'm going too slow on a narrow downhill trail. It feels like I'm the one being rude blocking more experienced riders from their thrill for speed
Should newbies just stay off the steeper mountain trails? Will experienced riders have patience with timid riders? I think as an experienced rider, I'd be a little put off having to blow my speed rush in the middle of my favorite downhill part waiting on a newbie

Don't ever be distracted by other riders. Get out of their way when you can. Don't fall off a cliff trying to be the nice guy.

A good thing about the cold weather is not having to have etiquette. The common areas become great again. Even those that like to spread a glass object into multiple pieces everywhere is far less. Good ole murica

Are you trying to beat some sort of confession from the poster?
I have no idea whether people look in their mirrors when I pass. I assume they don't and just announce as if they didn't have mirrors. I'd rather announce when it's unnecessary than err on the side of not giving a warning when it would have made a difference.
Is "passing on your left" plain enough language?

I'm sorry, but if you need music, use ONE earbud. I don't want to hear your music. Yesterday I was twice passed by motorcycles with minimal mufflers AND playing music at a volume they could hear over their noisy pipes. It's just inconsiderate.
I know I'm an old fart for wondering why everyone has to carry their own music with them at all times, but seriously.
