What model year is this Specialized Hard Rock?

What model year is this Specialized Hard Rock?
Just got it from a neighbor. She says early 90’s. It’s in pretty good shape - been stored in doors and not ridden since the late 90’s.
But I want to see if I can look up all the specs for it so I need to figure out what year it is. I’ve tried to find some old catalogues but haven’t had much luck.
Note: it’s a Hard Rock Sport
Its got an Alivio RD, Altus C50 FD, a Sakae XR100 crank, 3x7 gearing with grip shifters.
It says Direct Drive on the frame.
Here’s some pics maybe to help?

Looks good: One lead is that my (aluminum) '97 Rockhopper is also equipped with GripShifters (which I love and also got on a second bike about 20 years later). Not sure what years Specialized might have used these.

It looks to be from the later 80s what is the serial number?

I think it’s a 1994 Specialized Hardrock Sport .
I have what I think is a 1993 and it’s one of my favorite frames .
Would love to find another at a reasonable price .

Definitely 90's. That's the same style DD decal on the fork as my '94 Stumpy.
A good resource is Retrobike uk. They have a lot of Specialized catalogs uploaded.

That was my suspicion as well but pretty much all the pics I could find didn’t have the Specialized logo big and spread out like this - they were all smaller and scrunched.
Found that site and I looked through almost all the catalogs but came up empty. Couldn’t find the logo matching like I mentioned above nor mention of the colorway.

I found this not sure if the poster is sure its a 1994 or just thinks it is but it looks like yours
1994 Specialized Hardrock Sport
I also found a 1994 catalog that had the bike but in a different color scheme however below it was a picture of tubing from a different color of the same bike so its possible it came in two different colors that year. 1994 Small Catalog I see what you are saying about the blocky letters on the sport model.
this one looks almost identical but has blocky letters for the hardrock branding 1994 Hardrock Sport

I guess its possible they just changed the style of the Hard Rock decal at some point during production because everything else about the frame is a match. So I guess we'll go with it being a '94.
It's a 7 speed currently - if i want to update to a more modern 9 speed i need to get a new wheel right? This hub will only fit a 7 speed, correct?

measure the rear dropout make sure its a 135mm but they make prebuilt wheels for not a lot of money you can swap out for https://www.amazon.com/Wheel-Master-...7893468&sr=8-5
