I thought of this thread last weekend. I got roped into a week of helping my FIL with a house rehab. Part of the pitch was "i saved you 4 bikes", so my interest was piqued. When I got there Mr Nephew/Forman said he had put them in the bush by the road for safe keeping... and someone took them! Shocker...

Here's a development. Last night my wife went for a ride from my parent's house, who were watching our son. She came back to their house and picked him up and came home, with her bike on the back of her car rack. Meanwhile I went out with two buddies for a crazy hard ride and when I got home in the dark I left my bike on the porch and immediately went inside and crushed two bowls of Thai beef and veggies over rice. Needless to say we both fell asleep and left our bikes outside all night long. Both were there in the morning. Told y'all I live in a good neighborhood.

The trek is still there....

What part of the Sooner state are you in? Depending on your location, the Trek you listed on the other thread is within easy striking distance. BTW, I live in VA, but was raised in the Wichita Falls, TX area.

Knocking on a stranger's door shouldnt be something that could cause concern for bodily harm. Thats absurd and unjustifiable.
Package deliveries get a doorbell or knock sometimes.

If your friend doesnt want people knocking, he should very clearly state on a sign which hangs on the door that he does not want to be bothered and if someone knocks, then expect to be met with potential bodily harm.
That should go over real well for all parties involved.***
Your in Iowa, can be a bit different in other parts of the country. Lots of robberies start with a knock on the door. Fortunately where I live, at least it depends on the time of day.

My bad. Should have looked that up.

Tony never played with Ozzie Nelson, but he did with Ozzy Osbourne.

Of course it can be a bit different in other parts of the country.

I wouldnt call being threatened with a gun to be 'a bit different' though.
I grew up in the Chicago burbs. I went to college in rural Mississippi. Ive lived out in CA south of SF on the coast. I lived in another Chicago burb for internships. We live in Des Moines and have been in anything from a crap rental to starter home to nice home.

Besides living in an overly populated place like Manhattan or something like that, I have lived in/around most of the different parts of the country you mention with all sorts of cultural and socioeconomic differences.

Cant say I have ever been greeted with the sound of a gun on the other side of the door when I have knocked. Ive just lucked out though, i suppose.

Now lets get back to one of the currently most pointless threads on BF.

Yep. I wrote a friendly little neighborly note and left it in their mailbox. I figure at this point I literally have nothing to lose. They won't talk to me anyway right..

I think it is a good, entertaining thread. Everyone has a situation like that going on at some point. You can only look at so many " Found a (fill in the blank) thread. Here's the story on it." Those threads all look and read the same after a while. This thread has an interesting story, at least.

Ha, I actually thought of this thread the other day. The bike is still sitting in the bushes, even though you can’t see it anymore, it’s totally overgrown. I guess it’s just going to rot there...

Is the overgrowth thick enough to give you cover for a night extraction? It's cold now so no need to worry about critters or snakes.

At least you could swap it out for a Columbia or Holiday. They'll never know the difference when it's a pile of rusty pipes.

My neighbors hate it when I'm burying one of my big steel drums in the yard late at night while singing nursery rhymes. But whatever...

Knock knock.......
Anyone expecting anybody??
All on the couch: No......
Jimmy, take a look through the peep hole but DON'T OPEN THE DOOR IF YOU DON'T RECOGNIZE THE PERSON!.....
Uhmmm.... I don't know this guy, he looks kinda geeky like those old cyclists with those old bikes, we see at the park.....
And everyone on the couch goes... LOCK THE DOOR AND GET AWAY FROM THERE, QUICK!!
