It's better than the original in every way. I bet the paint will hold up better, too.

One idea: you can mount the rear brake caliper in front of the seat stays rather than behind it. It looks a little funky when you do that, but the cable route is better. That's what I did on my old Raleigh when I added side pull brakes.

Not a project I would have chosen, but you've done an excellent job with it. It looks great, and more importantly, sounds like you're very happy with it. If you undertake any future projects, would definitely follow their progress.
