Will a 26x1.9 tube work in a 26x2.0 tire?
I sure hope so, because I really need to replace the rear tube in my tandem tonight. Will it at least work temporarily until I can get to the LBS and buy the proper size?

Yes.
An inner tube is simply a balloon. It'll inflate to fill all available space withing the tire. You can very safely use a tube to roughly 1-1/2 times it's nominal size. Most tubes sold today are sold as fitting size ranges, ie. 1.5-2.0

Slightly smaller= good. Slightly larger= bad. The larger tube can crease and cause a flat. Still OK to use if you have to.
