I rode for 2 1/2 hours in 33 degrees Fahrenheit rain. I went to work and back.

The owner called me a half an hour after I left for work to let me know that I didn't need to come in to work. He figured that the number of customers would be down. While I had my cell phone in my pannier, with all the road noise I didn't hear it ring so I didn't discover the change of plans until after I arrived.

On the bright side, going back, things had warmed up to 36 degrees and some places climbing back up the bluff were very pretty.

And it sounds like you got a decent ride in anyway.

How long is your 17% grade hill?

Radar was clear when I left for my walk, so I wore sneakers. Walked 1.2 miles to City Hall, first to pay the water bill and then decided to figure out where/who to report faulty traffic signals to. Turns out Public Works will take the info, but then they issue a work order for a contracted third-party to do the work.

By the time I was done at City Hall, it was sprinkling... and then drizzling... and I ducked into the big gazebo by the Court House to switch my beanie out for a hat and ear muffs. Once I got under the metal roof, I realized that it was now sleeting . I gave it a couple of minutes and decided that I needed to get home before the kids (in case they forgot their key), but luckily it eased up significally after a block and stopped altogether after six blocks. So that was 3.78 miles.

Later on, I went and paid my mom a visit and took the back way to her place and then the back way from her place to the store (ensuring I stayed out of the mud/grass). That was 1.4 miles.

Walking Last Week
Tuesday -- 4.4 km
Wednesday -- 5.4 km
Thursday -- 1.9 km
Friday -- 1 km
Saturday -- 0.6 km

To and from work, a bit of shopping, a couple medical appointments ... and a bit of time on the treadmill on Tuesday.

Walking This Week
Nada till Wednesday when I slowly eased myself to the bus and then to work

1.4 km walk today ... 0.5 km to the bus and then to work. That, I managed all right. But the 0.9 km round trip to the grocery store at lunch was a bit much for me.

Meandered from the QT in town to the public library and then to home. Used a different app to track it and it claims 3.94 miles.

Been in this town since '06 and today was the first time I've actually been to this library. Got a card and instructions on how to access their digital catalog. I also added their network to my slowly growing list of WiFi networks that I can use to check weather/email when I'm not at home.

Finally was able to get back on the bike and ride today to work. Olentangy Trail has been icy and its been below my temp range to ride. the ingress and egress areas to the path are still ice covered and pretty sketchy. Hoping the sun and "warmer" temps in columbus melt the ice.

Why the treadmill ??...when you are already doing a lot of other walking+cycling.

I like the treadmill.

I can hook up my earbuds and watch the news or whatever's on all while doing a very brisk walk or even jog if I feel so inclined. And on my spinning class days, I usually get there about 20 min before the class starts so rather than sitting around and doing nothing, I hop on the treadmill for a brisk 20 min walk to warm up.

I did a tour de charlotte. Saw Noda Brewery, The Diamond, Panther's Stadium, OMB Brewery, Southpark Mall etc. Rode from noon to 8 with my only break being a gyro lunch half way through. Beautiful day.

Road my bike to work everyday which would be sad if I didn't since I live only a mile from work. On Tuesday I added another 6 miles since I bike to class after work that day. So my total will be 16 miles on my bike and zero miles in my car. I turned the Honda Element on today to make sure it starts fine since it is about 5F here most days.

Saturday -- walked 4 km ... to the beach, along the beach and back via a grocery store. It was a slow walk because I'm not supposed to exert myself too much just yet. However, it was wonderful to get out into the sunshine and fresh air. I've spent way too much time cooped up indoors lately.

Yesterday 64 miles. Back on 28 lb touring bike 20 lb in panniers plus two bottles on bike, light etc. Very windy. 42f at start, 29f at the end. Perfect ride. Need to hydrate as much as in the hot weather. If I don't I pay for it.

Just completed a 4.6 mile walk. Decided to head out to WM to pick up a new backpack, but they didn't have much of a selection and I didn't like what they did have for the price, so I guess I'm gonna have to go the Amazon route.

Starting to build up the walking again ... it took a bit of a hit there for a couple weeks. As did the cycling.

Monday 19 - 2 km
Tuesday 20 - 1.8 km
Wednesday 21 1 km
Thursday 22 - 1 km
Friday 23 - 1.7 km
Saturday 24 - 4 km (as described above)

Tuesday 27 - 1 km
Wednesday 28 - 4.8 km ... woohoo! and that included a walk down to the beach and back.
Thursday 29 - so far 1.5 km, but there could be more, the day is not over yet.

And where did I go? Lots of medical clinics, the beach of course, to and from work, and a bit of shopping. About once a week, I nip down to the local fresh fruit and veg market to pick up something yummy for lunch ... bananas, kiwi fruit, apples, peaches, lychee, snowpeas, or whatever grabs my fancy. I've also found a tea that they stock which is really good. I am not overly fond of most teas ... they're too bitter for me ... but I like rooibos teas and I found a lemon-ginger I really like.

Since my last post ... 26.52 km walking. Mostly outside + 3 decent treadmill walks.

The usual ... work, shopping, the library, the park, my allergist, the beach, etc.

I've also got back on my bicycle again ... slowly recovering ... but all our rides have included driving to a start point and cycling from there. It's really difficult to do a slow, casual, relatively easy recovery sort of ride in our immediate area. But driving a little bit opens up all sorts of possibilities. And as for the idea of putting the bicycles onto public transportation ... that option is also not available.

Between this ad and their "off the grid" campaign, I can't help but think Little Ceasar's is acting as a subliminal supporter of car-free lifestyle, whether intended or not...

My usual ~2 mile route today. I intended on stopping by my PCP for an injection, but a cold front decided to start moving in early and I didn't feel like waiting on them to get back from lunch, since I wasn't really prepared for the front.

Up to 28 miles on foot for the month .

I am currently car free (as I simply do not have a car) - I rode to Walmart (put money on my prepaid card), from there to a convenience store to pick up some things for my wife, and then back towards my home to a LBS to replace my pedals (as the left one was cracked and literally coming apart). Total ride was maybe 5 miles. I usually track these rides but forgot today.

Its about a couple of hundred yards. Someday soon I hope to make it up the hills without a break.

It was a warm day but I managed to get in some nice climbing (~400m) this morning before taking my wife out for a leisurely stroll and picnic on the LA river.

Walked up to the store and back. Kids were out of school today (scheduled), but just found out school is closed tomorrow (snow day). Not used to walking on snow/ice.
