Reroute rear derailleur cable

all

Sadly, due to being off the bike for a while and gaining weight, I have resorted to installing a mid drive electric motor. The motor (BBSHD) replaces the bottom bracket and the motor housing is interfering with the rear derailleur cable, pressing it up towards the down tube right as it reaches the bottom bracket guide. The extra friction is making for sluggish shifts. I thought I’d see if anyone had solved this kind of problem before? I was thinking of some cable stops to allow a piece of housing to run from 1/2 way on the down tube to the chain stay, or maybe a pulley somewhere on the seat tube. I suppose I could also glue some cable housing to the motor housing where the cable hits it?
Thanks for any suggestions!

If you buy a long cable guide to run the cable through you can reroute where ever you choose as long as there aren't too many bends in it.

Thanks happy feet! I thought about that, my impression was that long stretches of cable guide increase friction too, but would be grateful to hear from others. I have 25’ lengths of housing so may try your suggestion.

I'm sure it does but I would be more concerned that if the motor is pressing against the cable as it is it will crimp the cable in a housing as well. I also lube my cables before threading into a housing.

Can you run a full length casing along the top tube and down the seat stay? Andy

I have 2 bikes that use a top tube , down the seat stay route to the rear derailleur,

housed cable all the way would be simple .. tape & zip tied down..

OK guys you’ve convinced me! I will put on a full length cable housing today, routed along the top tube and seat stay and let you know how it turns out. Thanks for the advice!

Full housing is best. Only 2 ports for dirt to enter.
On all bikes that came with cable stops I drilled or filed them out.
If you run it a different route than the frame was designed for, zip tie. Just make sure you keep bend radii large.
