And FYI, some of the very people on this forum created the software for IRO sprints from scratch. It was made so those of us who can't afford other setups and are not on the east coast can still put people, like 165, in their place.

The setup is: two cylcocomputer sensors with neodymium magnets attached to the rear wheels/chanstays of two iro SS bikes. These connect to the RTS and DTS ports on a serial cable (i think...i am just recalling off the top of my head). That connects to the computer which connects to the projector.

GPLv2 License. It's all Ruby/GTK/SVG. only works on linux afaik, but i will try to get it on windows soon.

man I have been bumping the hell out of that roller racing thread. get me a mockup and I'll code it. get me an address and i'll mail you a serial breakout cable. get me a nerd with a laptop on the phone and i'll tell him how to install linux and my code.

no sorry, DSR and CTS. Lyle graciously pointed out that we could use the binary flag ports which means two racers only need one serial port. It is also a lot less sensitive than the RX pin, which means less prone to screwy data.

* Sensor one is wired to the DTR and DSR pins, and sensor two is wired to
* RTS and CTS.

i'm a nerd with a laptop! fedora core 2.6.11.

no rollers though. i assume i'd need a cycle computer as well?

You can buy the cheapest cyclocomputer possible, all you need is the sensor part, you can throw the rest away. and it is pretty important to have identical sensors, so buy two or more of them if you are seriously trying to build a setup not just demo or hack the software or use it in your living room. If you aren't serious, then go ask a bike shop if they have any in the trash heap.

You can also use the _much_ cheaper Velleman HAA26 Magnetic Switches, or any other sort of magnetic switch. I found the HAA26 at Fry's electronics, anywhere with security equipment might have it or another security switch

ok, so for head to head i'd need the laptop, 2 identical crappy computer sensors, a serial cable, and two sets of rollers? i assume you had to use the same two bikes for everybody?

yeah we did use the same two bikes for everybody. The sensors are chainstay mounted right now, so forkmounts for the bikes are also mandatory.

however, with substantial testing you could easily mount the sensors on the rollers themselves, that would free up possibilities for bringing your own bike and not having fork mounts.

Yes. The bikes and rollers are only used for the sprints, but IRO sponsored us with bikes.
